Lots of work but it's below -30ºC in winter. And winter is from the third week in October to the end of April.

At the very least ,you won't face the proverbial " London Fog " weather
You'll find it comparatively dry. Here's hoping.

Measure twice, cut once.

You need two tape measures. The official metric one and the imperial one that all plans other than government buildings are in. Using lumber cut in Imperial and plans in metric is a bitch.

You'll need a tape measure with the black diamonds on it if you're going to get past the government spies.

Matter of opinion. The best thing that can be said about oilberta is that they don't like socialists.

search on this site here for 'hermanntrude'... he might be able to give you some more tailored advice and tips if he comes around, as to what it's like to move here from there. He used to live in the northern wilds, and in Edmonton. Currently he's a newfie, but, we'll forgive him that.

My niece married a guy from England and they recently moved from England to Edmonton. He is 90 pounds soaking wet and the winters don't bother him at all. If you have any meat on your bones you will get used to it. He's been here 2 years and loves it. Besides, once you're over here, you can always move to southern Alberta.... much hotter in the summer but nicer in the winter.

Alberta, Saskatistan and Manitoba are the place to be so you're at least starting off on the right foot.
