MONTREAL -- Since 2010, Lyme disease in Quebec has become a tick-ing time bomb in Quebec.
Up until then, the province averaged eight cases of Lyme disease each year, but over the past four years, the disease has skyrocketed with 71 cases in 2013 and 66 in 2014.
The disease is caused by bites from ticks carrying a particular bacteria and if left untreated, can cause serious cardiac and neurological problems.
Marie-Andree Soucy, head of the Quebec Association for Lyme Disease, told Le Journal de Montreal that when she was bit two years ago, "they laughed at me and said there are no ticks here." Now, she lives with constant fatigue, migraines and problems with concentration.
"My life is on pause," she said.

Not much of a skyrocket if the number of cases goes from 71 to 66.
