A Quebec fur farmer faces six counts of animal cruelty and neglect, the Montreal SPCA said Monday.
The province's parks and wildlife department conducted multiple inspections of Visons JNJ Inc. in Monteregie this year and found about 80 foxes were in "critical condition" and suffering health problems including dehydration, emaciation, tail injuries, ear and eye infections and internal bleeding, the SPCA said. Approximately 10,000 mink were also found with a variety of health issues.
In May, several foxes had to be euthanized, and two dogs were seized, the organization said.
The SPCA said it has tried unsuccessfully to get the ministry to use its greater law enforcement powers to intervene and remove the remaining animals from the farm.
The accused, Jean-Luc Rodier, was previously convicted of animal cruelty in 1996 for his treatment of dogs he was breeding for commercial purposes, the SPCA said.

He should never have been allowed to have those animals in the first place. And the animals should have been taken away after the first incident. Who knows how many more would have survived had this happened.
