IT specialist: relocating to Saskatoon

Hello folks,

I need advice re. my potential relocation to Saskatoon - my wife got an interesting job in R&D in Saskatoon, but we are worried about what the local job market would be for me there: I have nearly 20 years of IT experience (security, infrastructure, consulting, training), lots of certs and high skills; IT jobs seem to be few and far in between in Saskatoon, let alone senior positions.

So, I'm kindly asking for advice from locals - could you tell me whether I'd have a really hard time finding a job in Saskatoon or I'm worrying over nothing (I wish!).

Cheers!

Hey, that was going to be my question!!

I spent a few days in Saskatoon almost 20 years ago, touring the RCMP depot. Good luck and my condolences....

I grew up in Saskatchewan and get back to Saskatoon a fair amount.

You might want to try the University, the banks and the government. There are also a few large corporations like Cameco and Potash that might have something. However, I don't think there are many IT jobs there, unfortunately.

Spending a night in the drunk tank does not equate to "touring the RCMP depot" thecdn!

It was when I was a young army officer so there was no doubt drinking involved but we did do an official tour of the training depot.

On another occasion we toured the army detention barracks in Edmonton. Definitely makes you not want to go there.

OK, thank you for your answer. After some research, I've come to the conclusion that the IT field doesn't look very promising in Sask-city. Bummer...
