PAYNTON, Sask. -- A Saskatchewan man is facing criminal charges for allegedly running down and killing a pronghorn antelope with his dirt bike.
RCMP got a tip about a green dirt bike chasing and killing the animal on Friday south of Paynton, about 200 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
A witness told police the animal was taken to the Little Pine First Nation.
The antelope carcass was found and a man from the community was arrested.
He's charged with causing unnecessary suffering or harm to an animal under the Criminal Code and RCMP has not released his name.
Wildlife Federation director Darrell Crabbe said they hear at least one similar story a year, usually involving snowmobiles.
"It would indicate to me a complete lack of respect for wildlife and common sense," he said.
"It's really hard for me and probably every ethical hunter to even comprehend why someone would do that."
