I don't see any reason why anybody should starve in this world.Personally I have not set myself up in the business of running this world. It is they who have set themselves up in the business of ruling this or that country. If they don't do what they are expected to do, then there is something wrong, not with he leaders, but with the people who have put them there in the seats of power.

China, you do have some valid points here. First off, even in non-democratic countries, you'd be surprised to what degree the people control the government. A case in point is a protest in Nazi Germany against the removal of elderly and ill family members of the protesters; believe it or not, the Nazis backed down. Another example is China where I was surprised to find that sometimes popular opinion was more extreme than that of the Pary's. After all, even in a non-democratic country, there are limits as to how much the government can rock the boat before the people rise up against it.

Looking at it that way, all governments, democratic or otherwise, reflect the will of the people to greater or lesser degrees.

Also, in a state of constant opposition as we seem now to have in Canada, the government ends up relatively paralized in its ability to act. There are times when we need to simply respect our government and obey the laws whether we agree with them or not.

This post is confusing- "there's nothing wrong with our leaders"..........."no reason to starve in this world"...........................The facts, people are starving, leaders are making promises they can't keep, leaders continue to withhold information from the electorate. leaders are continuing to impose more onerous taxes on the electorate, so I don't see any reason for the post as every statement in it is inaccurate.................IN MY HUMBLE OPINION....................:lo l:

None of this would be possible if the electorate didn't put up with it. So looking at it that way, the politicians are just giving us what we want, sadly enough.

Actually, society is a product of all the people in it, including the politicians. Everyone is at fault and everyone is at credit. Is it the public's fault the politicians show their good side when viewed and then their bad side when the public isn't looking? Is it their fault the politicians HAVE a bad side?

How is it our fault when our "leaders" decide to disregard their promises after they have already been voted in?

All citizens (including leaders and every day people) are responsible for societal development. Regardless of how improbable this may seem, there is definitely the possibility that government officials can act in accordance with the population they serve so that there is a fairly unanimous consensus on all terms of engagement.

Open forums of communication is the starting point. Awareness of these viewpoints by governments is the second step. Acting on good resolution stemming from this communication is the last step. I'm pretty sure that there are government reps reading these threads as we speak.

Let's not confuse democracy with anarchy. Democracy is the collective will of the people, and individual must respect the collective will. In anarchy, yes, we each do what we want.

Because we vote them back in, usually because we like the pretty party colours on their lapels or some other silly reasons. Either that or we always vote strategically for second-worst to keep the worst out. Now that's how we keep ourselves just one step away from the bottom of the gutter.

I don't. One SOB lies to become an MP here, I vote for someone else.
