China, you do have some valid points here. First off, even in non-democratic countries, you'd be surprised to what degree the people control the government. A case in point is a protest in Nazi Germany against the removal of elderly and ill family members of the protesters; believe it or not, the Nazis backed down. Another example is China where I was surprised to find that sometimes popular opinion was more extreme than that of the Pary's. After all, even in a non-democratic country, there are limits as to how much the government can rock the boat before the people rise up against it.
Looking at it that way, all governments, democratic or otherwise, reflect the will of the people to greater or lesser degrees.
Also, in a state of constant opposition as we seem now to have in Canada, the government ends up relatively paralized in its ability to act. There are times when we need to simply respect our government and obey the laws whether we agree with them or not.

Actually, society is a product of all the people in it, including the politicians. Everyone is at fault and everyone is at credit. Is it the public's fault the politicians show their good side when viewed and then their bad side when the public isn't looking? Is it their fault the politicians HAVE a bad side?

All citizens (including leaders and every day people) are responsible for societal development. Regardless of how improbable this may seem, there is definitely the possibility that government officials can act in accordance with the population they serve so that there is a fairly unanimous consensus on all terms of engagement.
Open forums of communication is the starting point. Awareness of these viewpoints by governments is the second step. Acting on good resolution stemming from this communication is the last step. I'm pretty sure that there are government reps reading these threads as we speak.
