"Meditation is not a search; it is not a seeking, a probing, an exploration. It is an explosion and discovery. It is not the taming of the brain to conform nor is it a self-introspective analysis. . . . Meditation is the emptying of consciousness, not to receive, but to be empty of all endeavour.
There must be space for stillness, not the space created by thought and its activities but that space that comes through denial and destruction, when there is nothing left of thought and its projection. In emptiness alone can there be creation."

Krishnamurti

The mind must be quiet to be able to hear the voice of the eternal, the still small voice within. Meditation can come with discipline or it can come from being at peace with oneself. The ego is in constant agitation because it fears being discovered as a fraud. It covers up that fear by constantly chattering on about nothing. But if one is at peace with themselves, the ego has no place to hide, no reason to fear. Then it is quiet. The Universe abhors a vacuum, so quieting the mind will cause the Universe to fill it up with wonder.

Meditation is a wonderful way to simply "chill out." Like anything else, once a person understands it and knows how to do it, they usually become a devoted fan.

In the corporate rat race, I used to meditate every day for about 20 minutes. This simple act allowed me to focus on doing my job better, overcome my fear of flying, and much more.

For me, it started out as a survival tool but soon became a great part of my everyday life. I originally started meditating because I was getting promoted at a brisk pace - and I was "technically qualified" - but my ability to deal with more and more complex problems was getting shaky. After I studied meditiation and began to use it on a regular basis, things cleared up in a hurry and became...well, simple. And life became more enjoyable.

Like I said, for me it was a wonderful and effective way to cope with a lot of change. I'm a believer.

For me meditation is impossible im way too hyper, so i have to go on walks through the bush which calms my mind alot :)

Hey, whatever works Johnny...we're all different. I used to be just like that (hyper) but found that meditation was a perfect solution (for me) because all it took was about 20 minutes a day and a chair. Once the mind calms down and becomes focused and clear, it is quite a powerful device.

And meditation beats the sh!it out of taking a valium! As I got older, I found that meditation also beats the hell out of taking things like Viagra! ;-)

lol Meditation over medication. Cute, CB.
I like hiking. I can walk for miles, just walking. Same with running. I think I just start by concentrating on my breathing and after a while I don't even concentrate and autopilot kicks in.

lol I don't have ADHD, though. I can concentrate for long periods (even up to a few seconds), and I'm not hyper (when I sleep). :D

I like that too...I used to work out in a gym regularly and do meditation too...found that it was good for the body and the mind. The gym was in Tokyo (outdoor recreational areas were limited) but now I live in the wilderness and take long walks. Don't meditate as much as I used to but I'm starting to get back into it, and enjoy it a bunch. It's likely not for everyone but works for me.
