What is intelligence .............?
To find out is not to come to a conclusion. .
The moment you come to a conclusion as to what intelligence is, you cease to be
intelligent. That is what most of the older people have done: they have come to
conclusions. Therefore they have ceased to be intelligent. An intelligent mind is always learning , inquiring ,never concluding.
What is intelligence? Most people are satisfied with a definition of what
intelligence is. Either they say, "That is a good explanation", or they prefer their
own explanation; and a mind that is satisfied with an explanation is very
superficial, therefore it is not intelligent.
One can see that an intelligent mind is a mind which is not satisfied
with explanations, with conclusions; nor is it a mind that believes, because belief
is another form of conclusion. An intelligent mind is an inquiring mind, a
mind that is watching, learning, studying. Which means that there is
intelligence only when there is no fear, when one is willing to rebel, to go
against the whole social structure in order to find out what God is, or to discover
the truth of anything.
Intelligence is not knowledge. If you could read all the books in the world it
would not give you intelligence. Intelligence is something very subtle; it comes into being when you understand the total process of the mind - not the mind according to some philosopher or teacher, but your own mind.
Your mind is the result of all humanity, and when you understand it you
don't have to study a single book, because the mind contains the whole
knowledge of the past. So intelligence comes into being with the understanding of
yourself; and you can understand yourself only in relation to the world of people,
things and ideas. Intelligence is not something that you can acquire, like learning;
it arises with great revolt, that is, when there is no fear - which means, really,
when there is a sense of love. For when there is no fear, there is love.

To ask what is intelligence is like asking what is life.
Life is study, play, sex, work, quarrel, envy, ambition, love, beauty, truth - life is
everything, right ? But most of us have not the patience earnestly and
consistently to pursue this inquiry.

When we speak about this subject I point to the previous US Presidential administrations, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Maxine Waters, Norm Schumer and Arnold Paulson for the slick was they setup and then with top secret precision pulled off the biggest swindle perpetuated against the US taxpayers. All are still out enjoying their procedes and all have squirreled that money away off shore, tax free and out of sight. Lets see how much goes with Bush Sr when he passes or any of the rest of those Conspirators for that matter..

What is a word...?
It's a sequence of sounds, or a sequence of symbols, that we've agreed have meaning. I'd also strongly dispute your claim in the OP that when you come to a conclusion you cease to be intelligent. You can't function without coming to conclusions, just recognize that they're always provisional to some degree and reserve the right to change one when you learn more.

Perhaps some are not sure what it means but I can come to one conclusion all too
often its in short supply.
What if no one came to a conclusion? We would be even worse off and the word
itself would lose any meaning because there would be no intelligence. To suggest
that old people are not intelligent is not an intelligent conclusion either. Most older
people will have forgotten more intelligent things than younger people have learned.

Intelligence can be defined merely by pointing to two people one who has some
intelligence and a group of people who have none and that conclusion can be defined
Therefore intelligence is a state of mind where one knows they have concrete and
subjective knowledge. There you have it, an older person with a conclusion and a
definition of intelligence as I see it. Is there anything else you need help with today?
Something I might have forgotten that others haven't learned yet perhaps?

This is it , Dexter S .Ones intelligence realizes that "they're always provisional to some degree " therefore it doesn't form any conclusions , it continues learning , .

Thanks for the definition of the word....."word" -can you go deeper ?
I would like to wish you /us a happy New Year .

China.......could you perhaps explain the point of this thread?
Absolutely , The article states end explains why an intelligent person never arrives at a conclusion .It is not a big news so I have placed it in a "Philosophy Dept." Very easy reading , obviously no abstract ....just 'the way it is' .If you're looking for a 'point' of this thread ..well I need to practice typing on the computer .
Happy New year .

What's your conclusion .....?
According to your descriptors, then, you aren't intelligent.

IMO, intelligence is simply the appropriate application of wisdom combined with knowledge.
