Some info? (Crossing the border)

I recently made a post saying I would be going to London Ontario. I was missinformed. I will be in Windsor Ontario. However I have some questions regarding crossing the border. What am I to expect at the border? I've heard some pretty horrific stories about being denied entry into Canada. Also, what are some do's and don'ts in Canada

Final question, what is there to do in Windsor?

Don't bring a gun.
Don't bring any weapons.
Don't bring drugs.
Smile and be pleasant.
Do not have a criminal record.
Be polite.

That should work out okay.

Having crossed the border at least 1000 times and adding to TP's list. When asked a question, keep your answer short and to the point. Know where your going, who your seeing and how long you plan on staying and whatever you do.......

don't say anything about the big bag of heroin in your trunk.

Tell the border guards that you're coming to Canada to eat and screw and they'll wave you through.

Not to get into Canada though....but it will be needed to return to the USA.

(I haven't crossed the Canada/US border since.....yesterday.)

Hyptethically, what happens if you lose your passport? I get that you stay detained and can't cross back. But why? What makes the passport golden? This isn't to try to say "oh well passports are bull sh*t" I respect the process and have a passport. I'm just not exactly understanding how the passport makes a difference from the 3-4 other forms of ID I have.
