Direct Energy? It's this "deal" where you sign up to lock in your gas and/or hydro rate for the next 5 years. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks.

Those guys signed me up once during a door to door campaign. I said no thanks, but they signed me up anyway. When I complained about it, to the gas company, they told me I would have to take it up with Direct Energy who now held my account. DE told me if I didn't want their service then I shouldn't have signed up for a 5 year agreement. Not matter how many times I told them I never signed up for anything, I got the run around.

I heard some canvassers working their campaign waited for the gas bill to be delivered and then stole it from mailboxes. Thus they had the account number and switch the account from Enbridge to Direct Energy without getting my consent. Some even asked gullible customers if they could check their gas bill to make sure the customer was getting a government rebate on gas and stole the account number that way.

I would think they would need a signature agreeing to a switch, but they didn't at the time I guess. Cheaper or not, I never trusted them after that.

that is what they did to me here in Alberta.. they had me get my bill and showed me I wasn't getting any rebates (rebates don't kick in till the cost of gas reaches a certain price)...they wanted me to sign on the spot.. no time to think about it.. they also led me to believe they were in "partnership" with my gas company to give me the best possible rates... yadda yadda... was too fishy for me so I gave him the "I can't sign anything with out my husbands appoval"... then I called my provider and reported what happened and alerted some of the elderly neighbours in the neighbourhood in case they came back...

Watch out at the end of that five years when you get a huge honkin' bill that equals up to all those "savings" - or you can't get service restored.

Woof!

Picture this...

I'm moving into my new house. The house isn't new, but it was new to me. I have the moving truck in the driveway and some friends helping me move. It's July 31st and the hottest day of the year so far. The vultures start to hover and it begins...

I had to tell the direct energy representative to leave because they couldn't understand that I wasn't in the mood to sign their agreement on the day I am moving into my home with boxes in my hands. I had to tell them to leave 3 times before they actually got the message that they weren't going to be making a sale that day at my address.

As if that wasn't bad enough, I've been in my home now for 2 years. In that time, they send someone around (on average) about once every 2 months. I swear I've seen at least 10 different people from direct energy in the 2 years I've been here.

The last straw was when they came by one day while I was at work. My wife was home. The representative at the door actually tried to get my wife to sign a contract while they covered everything but the signature line with a piece of paper. When she asked to see what she was signing, the rep said she didn't need to.
That evening, when I got home, I called direct energy and told them that if any representative of their company ever comes to my door again, they will be considered a tresspasser and dealt with accordingly.

My husband put it best.

"No company spends that kind of money and energy on trying to sign you up unless they're making major profit off it."

I signed up once with them.......locked in for 4 years, in the meantime, Consumers Gas prices came down drastically.

now I just stick to my own, Consumers Gas.
