The USA do somethings right! They know price of liquid fuels is going to skyrocket along with natural gas & propane . They dont build naturalgas fired peaking power which will be priced out of exisitence in less than 5 years. They are proceding with many coal fired plants as the reserves of coal worldwide are astronomical. Ontario g'ment likes the Natural gas plants cus they can build them where voters in S Ont can see them & THINK there is progress being made. Why not good coal technology in north where population are ready to receive any new powerplants for the jobs that are disappearing

Well, the Ontario government is in a little bit of an ethical bind. It doesn't want coal-fired power plants but when Ontario is short of energy it queues up quickly to buy the excess of coal-generated plants south of us. Dalton has got to make a choice: no coal power for Ontario, no coal-produced imports.

The Us just announced 1 billion in grants fro clean voal burners & are proposing to fire gas turbine generators with bio gas -- now this is forward thinking -- impossible in Canada you say? with current g'ments yes -- go green
If You Lived in Atikokan Ontario You wouldn't argue about clean coal. When You go by our coal plant in the winter. There is no black around. The trees & lakes are thriving. The Fishing is great There is absolutely no smog or pollution.
This plant is not hurting our area at all. We would have 2 more plants here and we would be happy with it.
It does not pollute anybody . Least of all Southern Ontario which is 1000 miles away.
It is to bad that the McGuinty government doesn't wake up to these facts. We could be supplying Southern Ontario with much needed clean power and they wouldn't have to buy power from the coal plants that are polluting them in the south.
I would be much more afraid of Nuclear power and would not want it in our pristine area.
Accidents do happen with Nuclear power and if one happened in Southern Ontario it would be devastating

There are various grades and compositions of coal, some clean burning, some not..
I would say good luck US with your new Enron pyramid, and Canada should sell them coal but move farther towards organic carbon, such as charcoal, which is renewable and clean...Why create another "squeeze play" like fossil fuels for our grandchildren to have to deal with? Haven't we learned anything?
Don't think charcoal is the answer ? Isn't it made by driving of the pollutants in a coke oven? As for squeeze play Coal quantities are emormous & in many countries. Reality is we will be forced to gasify/liquify coal to provide transportation fuels when oil gets too expensive. Germans did it years ago. Only issue is cost. Forward looking countries will see the light & move early. Can Ontario G'ment think ahead of "next" election??
