Nude jogger Popadick pleads guilty
By Tony Spears, Ottawa Sun First posted: Thursday, February 05, 2015 07:50 PM EST | Updated: Thursday, February 05, 2015 07:57 PM EST
OTTAWA -- Accused flasher Donald Popadick admitted Thursday he'd exposed himself to joggers at a city park.

Popadick, 63, pleaded guilty to one count of mischief.

Five different joggers spotted him "running in the area naked" in April, Crown prosecutor Jason Neubauer told the court, reading from an agreed statement of the facts of the case.

He was arrested after cops went to the park and saw him strip down to nothing but his heart monitor and his birthday suit before stretching.

Popadick immediately sought help, defence lawyer Sean May said, and he volunteered to undergo three years of probation if the judge would be willing to grant him a conditional discharge, sparing him a criminal record.

What's more, said May, Popadick's publicized arrest subjected him to widespread ridicule from members of the public -- even Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon got in on the act -- because of his unfortunately apt last name.

"This had social media going like gangbusters," May said.

"There was a profound impact on Mr. Popadick as a result."

He noted Popadick's family have endured embarrassment "simply because of his last name."

Judge Matthew Webber gave him the discharge and the three years' probation.

Popadick, who is considered a minimal risk to reoffend, told the court he was "extremely sorry for all the trouble I've caused."
