BARRIE, Ont. — A couple has been arrested for a spree of poppy box thefts in this central Ontario city.
Ian McBoyle, 38, and Amber Leverington, 33, were arrested at approximately 10 a.m. at a Barrie Shoppers Drug Mart on Remembrance Day morning. They’re due in court for a bail hearing Thursday morning.
"Next year, I told them, they should put little chains on them so they can't be taken," the manager of a Mac’s convenience store where a poppy box was stolen said.
In total, the couple allegedly stole six boxes full of donations, including two from Tim Hortons restaurants and four from Mac's stores.
"The police were really determined to track this couple down because of the significance of the boxes, especially on Remembrance Day," Const. Angie Butler said.
