NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. ─ One of the first beluga whales to call Marineland home has died.
Beyli died in August from what Marineland says was natural causes due to old age.
In a statement, Marineland said the whale was close to 40-years-old and "was in excellent health until his passing."
Ceta Base, a group that runs a national database of captive marine mammals, posted on its Facebook page on Sunday that Beyli died Aug. 24.
Beyli was brought to Niagara Falls in 1999 from a facility in Russia.
As of August 2013, Marineland had 36 belugas.
