TORONTO - Charges have been laid in an “atrocious" road-rage incident in which a steel block was thrown into a moving car with young children inside.
Halton Regional Police say a family was driving along Hwy. 7 in Halton Hills around 10 a.m. Monday when the vehicle behind them began following "too closely," apparently looking for an opportunity to pass.
As the driver of the second vehicle overtook the family's car, he threw "a block made of steel through his passenger window and into the partially open driver’s window," police alleged in a statement released early Wednesday.
It was "an atrocious fit of rage while driving," police said.
The steel block shattered the glass, injuring the driver and showering two children -- aged 5 and three months -- in the back seat with glass fragments, police said. The trio was treated for minor injuries.
The licence plate of the suspect vehicle was obtained in the incident.
A 27-year-old driver turned himself into police on Tuesday.
Edwin Hepburn, of Acton, is charged with mischief endangering life, dangerous driving, assault with a weapon and mischief.
