KINGSTON, Ont. ─ Police called to a Kingston, Ont., area home because of a foul odour discovered a case of animal abuse.
What they found were at least two dozen live rabbits, a reptile, some other animals, possibly guinea pigs and an undisclosed amount of dead rabbits located inside and outside of the semi-detached bungalow in Amherstview, Ont.
Loyalist OPP responded to a complaint from a neighbour about a foul odour coming from the home and contacted the fire department.
"(The OPP) requested that some of our people make entry and do a search of a residence, mainly due with the smell, they couldn't get in," said Loyalist deputy chief Fred Stephenson.
The firefighters spent 15 minutes in the residence, which was unoccupied at the time.
