You are absolutly right. We have it pretty good here in Canada. Once you see something like that it puts everything in perspective. The last trip I was on was to the Persian Gulf a year and half ago. We came across a similar situation. We found a bunch of people that had been left at sea (by local a government) in a open aluminum boat with no motor. As you probably know the temperatures in the area can easily reach 40C. They had no food or water. Although we did not bring them onboard our ship we sent medical personel and supplies to them and towed them to the nearest port (after receiving permission from the appropriate authorities).

Yes when you see something like that Canada is a great be to live and I am proud to say that I am from Canada no matter where I go.

And so you should be proud to be a canadian homer....in the video the huron did not pickup the boat people, the medical ship escorting did. But after cocktail hour was over in ottawa, most of all homer.... it was the humanness and outrage that crew and the captain showed in the video finding these people. There was lots of it to, and no hollywood touches. Honest to god real people, with real emotion.... facing mans inhumanity to man. I still get to hear some great stories, I get invited down to the fleet club every now and than, for one of "those parties" I can honestly say that no one can really experience the true meaning of party until they have been at a bash with a room full of americans, australian, british and canadian, miltrary personal. I think you know the party I speak of....it is a legend in its own time :P I still can do knots better than most of you guys, having always had a tattered copy of the ashley book of knots around. The "strangle knot will hold a coil well.....it is first tied loosely and then worked snug" the ashley book of knots
