HEILIGENDAMM, Germany (Reuters) - You can stop staring hopefully at that phone, Bono. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will not be calling.

Good. There is no reason that the PM needs to consult a rock star on how to govern.

What's wrong with meeting with well educated poverty activists? It's a shame no one can see past his main occupation.

Why does any head of state need to meet a celebrity activist? It's not like Bono is passing on any new info on the suffering of Africans. Bono just likes to have his mug in the papers, he would ***** him self to any cause in my opinion.

Especially when he has a psychic to consult with on how to dress.

He doesn't NEED to meet with anybody, I just don't see why people would object to him discussing an issue that should be near and dear to his heart as a Christian with a well educated activist that has done a lot of work on that issue.

I don't know why we object to celebreties doing something positive with their fame. I don't care if it's Angelina Jolie that gives an orphan a home or some unknown couple, the act is the same and has the same value to me. By the same token, it doesn't matter to me if the PM wants to discuss poverty with Bono or some other accomplished activist I've never heard of. I just want him to care about poverty and meet Canada's promises.

I think the PM should worry about fixing Canada's poverty problems before trying to fix Africa's problems. Throwing money at the African poverty issue will not fix it, how much of that money actually gets to the people?

Overseas adoptions is another cause celebre for the Hollywood crowd lately, it seems. It's not like there isn't any orphans in the US now is there....

Saying we should wait until everything in Canada is fixed before helping anyone else is the same as saying we should never help anyone else. I don't hold that view. The poor and the orphaned in Canada and America certainly struggle, but I bet even they realize how lucky they are compared to the poor and orphaned in some other parts of the world.

Poverty is big business for some people. Harper did very well at this conference. Unfortunately, the progress on climate change will be overlooked because those oh-so-cool rockers were snubbed and will now denigrate Harper every chance they get,the big babies. Someone should be aking sir bob how he managed to make $35 million last year. I do not listen to the radio that much anymore, but I don't remember the Boomtown Rats leading the charts anywhere. Maybe they sell loads of discs to the poor in Africa.

But it also shouldn't be a big deal if he DOESN'T want to talk to a rock star/pseudo-activist either.

Harper is a conservative and they don't care about poverty. Now if Bono was a world famous economist...

It isn't entirely true they don't care about poverty. It is a real concern how to hide all those filthy poor people. Maybe if Bono proposed using a shuttle bus to get 'them' out of the city and into shanty towns, the PM is interested in real world solutions so good clean people don't have to look at, or think about, 'them.'

Excellent idea. About how many busses will we need to clean up downtown Toronto?

Not me but you play one well

It hardly matters if you are or not, your response was typically conservative and that was the point.
