Actually I think many hockey commentators are mere puppets of their NHL masters, namely the big money owners.

well I suppose if I had a choice that my team finish 2nd in the league overall, then went on to win
the stanley cup, or visa versa, I would pick the stanley cup, BUT I don't think about it that way.

Right now I am thinking about the presidents' cup, the season is beginning to wind down, only about
27 or so games left, and that cup is so difficult to achieve, and proves just how consistent and
talented a team has been from start to the finish of the season, so when that is over, its over.
If there was no presidents' cup, the seasons accomplishments, and finishing first
overall, would not be given any respect, it must be recognized.

Then comes the stanley cup race, a short intense frenzy of games, no telling who will come out the
winner, and about 1/3 of the time the presidents' cup winner wins the stanley cup, pretty good odds,
and playoffs are very exciting, a mini season with 1/2 the teams participating to start.

I don't really know why we would have to compare the two trophys, two separate achievements, nothing
to do with each other.

Not even Canuck players would agree with you on that one.

thats right, the players play hockey to win the stanley cup, that is the goal of every player
who laces on his skates.

there is no choosing one over the other, no comparison, but those of us who watch the season
closely from beginning to end do appreciate that accomplihsment a lot, how difficult it is to win the presidents'
cup, and appreciate that.
I know many find the season rather boring, and just wait it out till the playoffs come around, but
I don't do that, I love the season, all of it, and not just canuck games.

A lot of that is all about money, a lot of hoopla generated as it translates to huge money for the teams and the airing it gets for corporate sponsors!

the first round of the playoffs brings no money for the teams, but as the playoffs continue,
each round that is won brings in more money, and on it goes.

and when you say huge money for the teams, that does not include the players, the profits
made from playoffs are for the team owners, players are not paid during playoffs, whatever
their contract for the season is, includes playoffs.

I do believe there is an amount of
money paid to players of the stanley cup winning team, don't know the amount.

No.

The Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe and Vezina are FAR more prestigious than the President's Trophy: its clear just from the names. The President's Trophy is a nice team accomplishment, as it means you played at a consistently high level throughout the season, but Lord Stanley's Cup means you were The BEST when it mattered most. Thats also why the Conn Smythe is so prestigious as well: when everyone else was trying to elevate their game, you were recognized as having done so beyond everyone else (although it is a fairly subjective assessment, like most of the individual awards, and not an absolute like winning the Stanley Cup).

I think more highly of him now than before. Before he was just some steroid pumping athlete, now he is a thinking, intelligent human being.

The most important one is the Stanley Cup. Any goalie would trade in the Vezina for the Stanley Cup.

so did he also quit taking the steroids after his blurbing at the expense of his team, and go to school to
learn how to be considerate and more intelligent, no me thinks not, as he again, at the expense of his
fellow players, opened his big stupid mouth to make more political statements.

He knows what he is doing, and he is going to do it again, as he can grab the attention of his political
cronies and others, while doing this yapping as a boston bruin, but he better hurry and get the rest of
his drivell out over the airways, cause his time with the bruins is coming to and end, this season.

It doesn't say much for the Stanley Cup does it, if an idiot like that can win one?

I was not aware that Tim Thomas took steroids, Walter...........I thank you for revealing that as it gives me one more reason to dislike the man.

I have never heard of Tim Thomas taking steroids. If he did, it would be common knowledge on the various sports sites(such as TSN, ESPN, etc.).

You are so funny, when it comes to Boston, you completely lose it. I imagine you were frothing at the mouth when you typed that.
