During sentencing, Mr Justice Keith told Maden that he will never be released from jail: "This was an horrific crime and her agony must have been prolonged.
This is one of those exceptional cases in which the only just punishment requires you to be imprisoned for the rest of your life."
Imprisonment until death is the closest thing that Britain has to the death penalty. There are around 50 felons in the UK at the moment who are to spend the rest of their lives in jail, including child murderers Ian Huntley and Ian Brady and the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.
England & Wales felons serving life sentences can be given a minimum term to serve - such as 40 years - or actually be jailed until the day they die.
Almost all criminals convicted of murder in England & Wales who also raped their victim(s) and pre-planned the attack are sentenced to die in jail.
Other multiple murderers are sentenced to at least 30 years and so are the murderers of police officers and single murderers who used any firearms.
Other murderers are given at least 15 years.
Britain has more convicts serving life sentences than the rest of Europe combined, including Russia.

A child sex fiend who raped and strangled his young niece then calmly bragged about it in a 999 call was yesterday told he will see out his life in jail.
Dad-of-one John Maden, 37, lured Tia Rigg, 12, to his home under the pretext of babysitting.
But he drugged, stabbed, sexually attacked and strangled her.
Minutes later he rang police to confess he murdered her - and when asked why, he coldly replied: "Because I felt like it."
Maden, brother of the girl's mum Lynne, had stockpiled hundreds of photographs that betrayed his vile obsession with child rape, violent sex and murder.
Prosecutor Gordon Cole QC said: "It was murder purely for his sexual gratification. It had a sexual motive. The defendant had developed an obsessive interest in images and literature relating to paedophilia, rape and torture. He had an extensive library of such materials, which included literature dealing with methods of killing.
"This material and the subsequent discovery of Tia reveals the defendant was acting out a long-held fascination with rape, torture and abuse of children."
Maden rang his sister on April 3 to ask unsuspecting Tia to his Manchester flat.
She arrived at around 3pm - and just 45 minutes later her life had been savagely ended. Maden told a 999 operator: "My niece has been murdered by me... I've just finished killing her now."
Police got there two minutes later to find Tia's naked corpse in a bedroom, her hands tied behind her back and guitar wire around her neck. Two bloodied knives lay nearby.
Tests showed the brute had drugged her with anti-psychotic medication prescribed for him.
Tia had been knifed in the stomach and suffered severe internal injuries. But the main cause of death was strangulation. Maden told officers he had "heard voices, one good and one bad, in his head".
Maden was due to go on trial at Manchester crown court yesterday but instead pleaded guilty to rape and murder.
The monster showed no emotion as he learnt he would never be freed from jail. Mr Justice Keith said: "Tia Rigg died because you decided to realise your fantasies about torturing and killing a child.
"The fact that you chose your 12-year-old niece, who put her trust in you, makes what you did all the more unspeakable.
"This was an horrific crime and her agony must have been prolonged.
This is one of those exceptional cases in which the only just punishment requires you to be imprisoned for the rest of your life."
Lynne said afterwards: "My heart has been broken and will never mend. This nightmare will never end but now justice has been done.
At least Tia can rest in peace."
