Farming Without a Licence is a Criminal Activity

Saturday, 11 September 2010 06:39

'Throughout this nation it is becoming commonplace for state and federal governments to raid food buying clubs, private food co-ops, family farms and even micro farms. The reason these raids are taking place is that the FDA has determined that we are not smart enough to decide what we want to eat. They are making sure that we have a hard time getting food that is actually good for us and fulfilling their public health mission. This is the first in a three article series profiling two cases in the state of Missouri to illustrate what will be terrifically commonplace once Senate Bill 510, (The Food Safety Modernization Act-third article) is in place.'

Well, given the incidence of things like obesity and mature onset diabetes and cardiovascular disease, maybe the FDA has a point.
Aspertine type of 'food components/additives' cannot be added 'at the source'. Most farms only produce seeds and/or produce that is already under contract to large manufacturers. This would eliminated farmer's markets and u-pick sites. Farmers are still going to be growing their own gardens. The city might be a different even though that is what helped Cuba weather the US embargo. Granted they may have gone a little extreme in going back to animal pulled farm implements but with no spare parts for the US built tractors and such there was little choice.
The State tell them what to grow and that would seem to be a two-edged sword for the farmer since the land was free and the crop goes into the coffers of the State for the most part. It is still a better deal for the majority of their people rather than the US Coprorate control of the lands that simply left many without any source of income and that means an inability to earn any sort of living.

Selling lemonade on the street corner is a violation of most bi-laws, so what else is new?

Dam there goes my retirement plan.:p
Next thing you know pot will be legal and another income source wiped out.

Problem is all the major causes of health problems are FDA approved.

Georgia Man Fined $5000 for Growing Vegetables

A Georgia resident who has been an organic farmer for years is now facing $5000 dollars in fines for growing too many vegetables on his OWN land. That’s right.
Steve Miller, who has sold some of his produce at local farmers markets, as well as growing food for himself, is likely the victim of an Online Aerial Invasion of Property

A more pertinent question would be

"Why do so many people on this forum have their noses so far up the ass of the yanquis"?
Do you not think this is pertinent to Canada? There are forces at work here too to prevent people from getting quality food. Big Agri-food industry is lobbying to prevent Canadians from growing or purchasing anything other than the poisoned and Frantenfoods they grow and process, all under the guise of protecting us. Can't sell raw milk, farm fresh eggs, organic veggies and fruit, get sued by Monsanto because their Frankengrain cross pollinated with your organic grains.

Pretty soon we will all mutate together through better chemistry, so it will be alright. Won't matter if we all have lizard skin because we will all be in the same boat.

Can't sell Blah, Blah, Blah....more bee ess than you ever thought possible and then some

FYI-in addition to a multitude of farm retail operations there exists a growing network of farmer's markets in this country.

I shopped @ one in downtown Vancouver today-all of what was on sale was local product-much of it organically grown.

Maybe you can find some info on the Saturday Nakusp Farmer's Market (I remember it was on Saturday) here
