Susan Boyle suffered a meltdown on a plane just hours after she was left "absolutely devastated" by Lou Reed's refusal to allow her to sing his track Perfect Day on TV.
The Scottish singing sensation, who shot to fame after appearing on a British talent show last year, was due to perform the song on America's Got Talent.
But when she arrived to soundcheck the tune at the show's Los Angeles studios on Wednesday, Boyle learned Reed wasn't a fan and had refused permission for her to perform the rendition.
Sources claimed Boyle burst into tears and left the studio without appearing on the episode - and now it's emerged she sparked complaints from travellers on her return flight when she started singing and sobbing during the journey.
A source tells Britain's The Sun, "She would sing for a few minutes then start crying - she was all...
There are quite a few people in her lifelong home, a small village, who have expressed concern about her ability to withstand the stress of what's going on.
She apparently suffers from Agoraphobia, Social Phobia, anxiety disorders possibly with clinical Panic Disorder and Depression.
As a member of a small community she has known all her life and living quietly she probably can cope with these DSM-IV listed disabling and tormenting disorders most of the time with a G.P.'s help. Her singing is her outlet, her joy, her comfort, aid in coping and is an extraordinary gift - many with neurological disorders excel in extra-ordinary ways. To do what she's doing now is placing her under stresses she can only cope with with strong medication - breakthroughs from the effects of which under severe duress happen often and often dramatically and harshly.
I suspect the many who are using her and her gift as a profit making commodity, starting with that jerk Simon who found her in the first place, have no concern for her as long as she keeps performing. If they did, then build a recording studio in or near to her village and make others come to her. With technologies available such as Cisco & other companies that do live networking and broadcasting, she can perform from her living room if she needs to with as many performers as want to perform with her via live networking.
To be deprived at the last minute of the song she was focusing on performing would, to an Anxiety Disorders sufferer, create extremely high anxiety which could spiral into a full blown Panic Attack lasting many hours if not days. Add to that flying on a plane in a high state of anxiety, always difficult no matter how much medication, CBT, or times flown, and you have a problem, big time! She was trying to sing her way into her "safe zone" or "comfort zone" and couldn't. That's where she goes when she sings, you can see the relief and the feeling of being 'safe' on her face and in her eyes.
Just defining the difference between "mental", "meltdown", whatever and actual medical neurological disorders that are official disabilities. She's been exploited in such a way beyond that which her disabilities can cope with and she's doing her best to please and co-operate with those doing the exploiting otherwise they'll take her 'safe zone' away.
I know, as do thousands upon thousands of others, I have those same disorders, wish I had her gift I loved to sing, lost the ability in my early twenties. Music is a huge part of coping techniques for many of us. Hope that you can see her in a somewhat different light now, but if not - used to that too.... :::shrugs:::
