US Soldiers 'Killed Afghan Civilians for Sport and Collected Fingers as Trophies'

Thursday, 09 September 2010 07:00

'Twelve American soldiers face charges over a secret "kill team" that allegedly blew up and shot Afghan civilians at random and collected their fingers as trophies.
Five of the soldiers are charged with murdering three Afghan men who were allegedly killed for sport in separate attacks this year. Seven others are accused of covering up the killings and assaulting a recruit who exposed the murders when he reported other abuses, including members of the unit smoking hashish stolen from civilians.
In one of the most serious accusations of war crimes to emerge from the Afghan conflict, the killings are alleged to have been carried out by members of a Stryker infantry brigade based in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan.'

Assaulting a recruit? A RECRUIT? RECRUIT? What is a RECRUIT doing over in Afghanistan?

Recruits are people who have signed up for the military and have not completed Basic Training.

In other words...

FAILED

And the UK Guardian picks up stories from other news media.

Bottom line... Recruits do not get deployed. They are simply recruits. The day one signs up for the military, they are a recruit. They remain recruits until the graduate from basic training.

I googled the header and one of the first hits was this..
US soldiers 'killed Afghan civilians for sport and collected fingers as trophies' | MichaelMoore.com
Checked the reference to the seattle times....the only real newspaper refered to in the story....but can't find anything..
only bloggers are carrying that story....so far;-)

There is most likely something to it except that they didn't beat up a recruit. Recruit sounds flashier I suppose.

If convicted they will get punished whereas the Taliban (JBeee's Heeeroes) would indeed get rewarded.

Looks around... Nope... No Walter here.

I thought the "recruit" was a recruit of the secret "kill team"., not the military.

They are soldiers. Secret Kill Team? Like a sanctioned Secret Kill Team?

They beat up a new guy to the unit for blowing the whistle on them. Not a recruit, although recruit sounds cooler and makes a better story along with Secret Kill Team.

As I said, they are soldiers and they will be punished.

Reading the Opening Post....doesn't sound like that is going to happen when these
Soldiers are facing Murder Charges, etc...

On a different note....

The Personal Attacks & Name Calling & Trolling....Enough Already.

Guess you better refresh yourself or try to be informed - Well we know that is a major task - Soldiers have been before a Courts Martial, found Gulity and are now serving long prison sentences for actions in Iraq for one.
