New York Landmarks Commission Declines to Block ‘Ground Zero Mosque’

Amid outrage from angry protesters, the New York City Landmarks Commission declined to grant “landmark status” to a relatively anonymous commercial building in Lower Manhattan on the grounds that it is relatively anonymous and not of any historical significance at all.
Despite its picturesque graffiti and Burlington Coat Factory sign, this building is not an historical landmark


The reason this sparked so much fury is that the site is part of the planned location of a 13 story Islamic community center, which has been dubbed the “Ground Zero Mosque” by opponents even though it isn’t actually a mosque and isn’t actually at ground zero.

A number of opponents have claimed that building a mosque at the site, even one that isn’t actually a mosque but is just something vaguely related to Muslims, somehow “glorifies” the terrorist attack a few blocks away in 2001. The furore has reached such a point that even the Anti-Defamation League, which is nominally a group fighting for religious freedom, came out against the construction.

The latest public opponent of the construction is Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, who urged the city to block the construction and “take a look at this.”

He is joined by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg insists that freedom of religion still exists in the city, however, and supports the construction of the building.

Just because the nutcases allegedly responsible for the 9/11 claim to have religion on their side, doesn't mean its true. It would be like banning the building of a Catholic Church because of the some Catholic clergy's child abuse.

It's undoubtedly financed by Saudi money, which has been seeding mosques through out Europe and the Americas. They usually maintain some type of moderate front, but are almost always dedicated to this as means to an end.. the end being the imposition of a Muslim theocracy through out the World.

Islam is one of only two religions in the world with a Global messianic mission. The other being Christianity. So there is no doubt the the NY mosque is intended to forward that cause, by obfuscating the jihad character that Islam will ALWAYS embrace.. it's in their Book.

The original World Trade Center was financed and built by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a government agency and was financed largely through Port generated revenues and government grants or guaranteed loans. In 1961, a year before designing the World Trade Center towers, American architect Minoru Yamasaki completed a much smaller project that would influence the look of his new creation in New York City.
The project was 6,000 miles away, in a country Yamasaki would visit many times over the next decade, Saudi Arabia. It's clear from the layout of the World Trade Center that Yamasaki incorporated aspects of Islamic design into the towers.
This pattern was most visible at the base of the buildings, which were ringed by pointed arches resembling those found in mosques and on Muslim prayer rugs. The plaza fronting the towers paid homage to Mecca, Islam's holiest place, by replicating that city's courtyard layout, according to architect Laurie Kerr, who has studied Yamasaki's work.

Yamasaki himself described the trade center plaza, which featured a circular fountain and places to sit, as a mecca -- "an oasis, a paved garden where people can spend a few moments to relieve the tensions and monotonies of the usual working day."
For 29 years -- from the time the first World Trade Center tower was completed in 1972 to Sept. 11, 2001, when two hijacked planes leveled the buildings -- there was little general awareness that New York's tallest and most visible towers reflected Yamasaki's interest in Islamic architecture.
No plaque pointed out this connection. No literature extolled it. Yamasaki himself didn't publicize it, even though he dropped plenty of hints in his 1979 autobiography, "A Life in Architecture," in which he expressed his admiration for Islamic arches and included photos of all his important projects -- photos that reveal a pattern of Islamic-inspired design.
"The idea of a pointed, ribbed arch was beautifully replicated in the World Trade Center," says Nezar AlSayyad, a UC Berkeley architecture professor who worked with Yamasaki for two years on another project. "It's ironic it was used in the World Trade Center, which is then understood by the hijackers as a symbol of Western capitalism."

Although the trade center was perhaps the most prominent example of Islamic-influenced architecture in the United States, there are other notable examples in every major American city.

Last week, a journalist who writes for the North Country Times, a small newspaper in Southern California, sent us an e-mail titled "Help." He couldn't understand why an Islamic Centre in an area where Adam Gadahn, Osama bin Laden's American spokesman came from, and that was home to three of the 911 terrorists, was looking to expand.
The man has a very valid point, which leads to the ongoing debate about building a Mosque at Ground Zero in New York. When we try to understand the reasoning behind building a mosque at the epicentre of the worst-ever attack on the U.S., we wonder why its proponents don't build a monument to those who died in the attack?
New York currently boasts at least 30 mosques so it's not as if there is pressing need to find space for worshippers. The fact we Muslims know the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation to thumb our noses at the infidel. The proposal has been made in bad faith and in Islamic parlance, such an act is referred to as "Fitna," meaning "mischief-making" that is clearly forbidden in the Koran.
The Koran commands Muslims to, "Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book" -- i.e., Jews and Christians. Building an exclusive place of worship for Muslims at the place where Muslims killed thousands of New Yorkers is not being considerate or sensitive, it is undoubtedly an act of "fitna"
