She did what he had to do.

Americans use firearms at least a million times a year in self-defense.

More than 19 times out of 20, merely brandishing the weapon is enough.........

Then there is that 5 percent....

Looks good on her.

She was lucky the criminals were dumb. Good for her.

While this case certainly supports gun ownership, lets put it in perspective. Killing in self defense is extremely rare. Far less common than gun homicide, gun suicide or unintentionally killing yourself or a family member.

To study the epidemiology of deaths involving firearms kept in the home, we reviewed all the gunshot deaths that occurred in King County, Washington (population 1,270,000), from 1978 through 1983. The medical examiner's case files were supplemented by police records or interviews with investigating officers or both, to obtain specific information about the circumstances, the scene of the incident, the type of firearm involved, and the relationship of the suspect to the victim. A total of 743 firearm-related deaths occurred during this six-year period, 398 of which (54 percent) occurred in the residence where the firearm was kept. Only 2 of these 398 deaths (0.5 percent) involved an intruder shot during attempted entry. Seven persons (1.8 percent) were killed in self-defense. For every case of self-protection homicide involving a firearm kept in the home, there were 1.3 accidental deaths, 4.6 criminal homicides, and 37 suicides involving firearms. Handguns were used in 70.5 percent of these deaths....

As a matter of public and personal safety, most people should not have access to handguns.

I love it when justice is served at no cost to the public.:smile::smile:

BALONEY!

Look at the research.....google John Lott, or Gary Kleck....or let me help.

Guns and Self-Defense by Gary Kleck, Ph.D.

Actually, what is very, very rare is unintentional killing with a firearm......

BTW, neither the murder rate, nor the suicide rate has changed significantly since our wonderful Liberals took us a step closer to Canuckistan with draconian gun legislation.......

Meanwhile, while still high, the US rate has dropped dramatically.......despite firearms restrictions loosening, and laws allowing the concealed carry of handguns becoming the norm.

Oh, a significant quote from Kleck.."Defensive gun uses by crime victims are three to four times more common than crimes committed with guns"

Oh, and the article quoted is Dr. Arthur Kellerman who:

1. Does all his research in urban areas.

2. Counts rival gang members as acquaintances.

3. Discounts the 95% plus cases of defensive firearms use in which no shot is fired.......

In other words, Dr. Kellerman has an agenda, and is not interested in truth.

Try profiling a home invader sometime. Most of the time their best weapon is intimidation. They don't like people fighting back. When people fight back, most of the time the invaders' wind has left them and all they want is to get out. In the meantime, they are running on adrenaline which runs out after a short time. Apartments would mean neighbors in close range so any noise would have to sound fairly normal. Shots would draw a lot of attention.

While this case certainly supports gun ownership, lets put it in perspective. Killing in self defense is extremely rare. Far less common than gun homicide, gun suicide or unintentionally killing yourself or a family member.
True, in Canuckville maybe. Most people are killed by vehicle crash, though. Firearms deaths are minimal in comparison. Probably right up there with swimming deaths. Knifing incidents are probably right around there, too. In the States I bet it's a different story.

As a matter of public and personal safety, most people should not have access to handguns.
So these scum have free rein, like in Canuckville. Peachy.

.

Which raises another issue- Compulsory training in the use of all firearms, explosives etc. should form a major part of the highschool curriculum and to graduate students should be required to demonstrate proficient use and handling of pistols, shotguns and rifles. This could be just as much a life saving measure as learning how to swim and also make them proficient at putting meat on the table when the recession hits and reduce the need to go running for welfare.

Just out of curiousity - how effective are tranquilizer guns?
IM injections usually take effect after about 15 to 20 minutes. Lots of time to grab stuff, injure people, scoot, and then pass out.

The simple fact is that a lot of criminals would be a lot more cautious if they knew they might get shot while doing stupid things.

If this same scenario had happened in Canada, how many different charges
would this woman be facing? Unsafe storage? Gun safe? Loaded Storage,
No Trigger Lock? Unequal force (should she have also used a screwdriver
in Canada?)? Dangerous use? Etc....????

Imagine all the stuff you could do with them while they are napping?

That could be fun!
If only the stuff would take effect as soon as it was injected.
Stripped naked and put in a shipping container to North Korea.
Stripped naked, genitals covered with honey, and tied down near anthill.
Set afloat in waters full of box jellyfish or something equally nasty.
Tattooed with something nasty like "Niggers are stoopid" and dropped off in Harlem or someplace.
Forehead tattooed with "HIV+".

The imagination runs rampant. lol

... ammo in proximity to firearm, attempted homicide, homicide, unsafe use of firearm, assault with intent, etc.
