It's been 25 years since Steve dipped his foot at Fonyo Beach in Victoria and some benefactors are going to erect a plaque. Happily, Steve seems to be doing better now, is engaged to be married and is gainfully employed. Even though he has done more than his share of "screwing up", he has to be given credit for guts and determination.

I hope he can turn himself around. Addiction's a bastard.

Yep, people who haven't been directly affected by it have no idea. Thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel and people are getting over it, but still after leaving a lot of "carnage", during which time you just hate them. But as hard as it is as a victim you have to let go or you just destroy yourself, turn a new page and be glad the person is recovering.

It is about time that Steve Fonyo gets the recognition and the honour that has been denied to him. For years he has been, totally undeservedly, in Terry Fox's shadow.

Being treated the way he was could have driven anyone bitter.

If Terry Fox is held up as an example of perseverance, Steve Fonyo should be example of redemption.

Why connect the two? They are two different people who did what they did under different circumstances. Surely they can both be honoured without taking anything away from the other.

That's the Conservative government for you OOPS! I mean the Order Of Canada for you.

It would be nice if the Harper government can plead to the Order Of Canada committee to let him back in because of his accomplishments in the name of Canada.

Would that be too much to ask from our government?

How can you NOT connect the two? They both attempted the same thing while both of them suffered from the same affliction.

However, Terry Fox got all the glory, and Steve Fonyo got nothing but the finger in the eye.

It is a given that this recent and most deserved honour will not take anything away from Terry Fox. It is also a fact that and it is a given that the blind adoration for Terry Fox took away from Steve Fonyo what he deserved all along.

However, better late than never.

What about the five (5) drunk driving convictions, the drug charges, the assault, the frauds-who's name did he commit those crimes in?

The landlord he beat up using a wrench might have something to say about don't you think?

Or did the landlord vote Conservative?

Fonyo lost his chance long, long ago the less we hear of that loser the better.

That's your f****g opinion and you're welcome to it, nobody is saying he should be honoured because of those things, besides do you know the full story about ALL the transgressions? He's done his time, now people should lay off him. As for the landlord incident, there is an allegation that that was self defense. Anyway time to move on.:lol::lol::lol:

So they had two things in common.
