A U.K. doctor allegedly removed a man's testicle when he was supposed to remove a cyst, the BBC reports.
Dr Sulieman Al Hourani - a surgeon at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, England, in September 2007, when the alleged botched surgery took place - stands accused of misconduct and also of stealing medication.
His conduct is now the centre of a General Medical Council hearing.
The GMC regulates and licenses doctors in the U.K.
According to the BBC, Sarah Prichard, counsel for the GMC, told the hearing that Hourani removed the patient's right testicle by accident when the nurse's back was turned.
"Literally as the nurse turned away to get a transfixion stitch, the incident occurred and the testicle was removed,” she said.
Dr. Hourani was dismissed from his previous job at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust after it was alleged he stole two boxes of dihydrocodeine, a strong painkiller.
He also stands accused of injecting himself with two milligrams of the sedative midazolam, which was supposed to be for a patient.
Dr. Hourani's case is taking place in his absence, as he opted instead to practise medicine in Jordan rather than participate.
