Is the government addicted to gambling revenues?...

Is it time Canadians organize an intervention?...

Who is regulating the regulators...?

I believe governments are addicted to gambling revenues..It is time government get's outta of the gaming industry..Sell it to big business so they can regulate like their suppose to ..!

Who's regulating the regulators??

Some governments like Russia are facing their addiction to gamblin revenue..Good move wish others would follow..

Politicians are becoming addicted to gambling revenues at the expense of those addicted senior/hard working gamblers...Bus them in ..take their money..send them home broke!..It's just plain criminal..It is time for governments to get outta the gambling business.Sell them off.Governments into gambling, Only adds the belief that government only cares about 1 thing. $$$$...

Russia's casinos forced to close down - Russia- msnbc.com

Hooked on VLTs, 'Trailer Park' star plans film

Even Jon Dunsworth who plays Jim Lahey on "The trailor park boy sknows the problems with Gaming machines...

I believe privately/big biz owned casino's can be fun to visit.Betting on the horses ,even a good card game is fun..Once in a while ,but, do we really need 3 or 4 with in 30 minutes of each other..What does this say about the priorities of governments..Like the Ontario government?..Do we really need so many Casino's?...It's bad enough we have to watch/worry about Big biz rippin the people off..Do we really need the government in the biz!...

Who is regulating the regulators.?.It is sad...!

Problem gamblers hit Ontario casinos with $3.5B lawsuit

New Casino commercial ads on radio and T.V say they don't want Gamblers in their casino's ,say 3 % are addicted gamblers.Amonst many other slogans..Even quick to post all the places gambling $$ goes.(where did the money come form before gambling?.Where's that money going now?)

How can you trust the info when the governments running the whole show?.....The info gaming industry gives is mostly fabricated B.S..Just plain ..False!

...It's more like 50% are addicted and are repeat gamblers..Those problem gamblers account for up to 60% of the Casino's revenues.!...But of course you won't here this outta the horses mouth ..Ignornace is bliss...However, It's Not hard to research the facts, when you have 4 casino's to study within 1 hr of your house...Don't believe the government statistics .They like to mess with the numbers in their own favour. It's their game..Like the slot machines..Thier good at it.!..Do your own research..The truth is easily visible..Go into the Casino see how many people are smiling and having fun at the slots...

Bus the seniors in ,luring them with coupons and play points ..Keep them there all day till the next bus comes to pick them up..You can spend $100 easily in less than 30min(do the math)...with nowhere else to go ..You will be waiting a long time for your ride home..Depressing /sad ain't it?

Ontario's Mob - Government cultivating addicts

Time to get outta the gambling biz Governments...Show the people you care about more than the money!...But if it is about the money .There is far more money to be made in regulating casino's and helping addicted gambers than creating them..

BAD BUSINESS to be in when your the government..!

I think it is time Canadians arrange an intervention for the Canadian/Ontario /municiple governments ..It is time they face their addiction to gambling revenue..!..

Time Government gets outta the gambling industry .So They can fairly regulate it.!

It's common sense..!

Yeah I found that radio ad (running recently) to be dodgy at least- why all the perks for high-rollers if that is the case??

Would casinos prefer that everyone who comes in walks out with tons more loot than they entered with?? My first thought was, while reading between the lines, that the ad is sort of disingenuously suggesting that they would rather super-skilled players would come in and clean them out

The government IS addicted to gambling revenues, too bad there isn't a program to cure that :D

Time to shut down casino's.They are germ factories...Good way to pass on h1n1 flu/colds to seniors and others ...Time to close them down..Ok maybe alright in small doses ..but the government should not be running them..They should be regulating!.Too dangerous to our health..

Governments are addicted to money period. The question is, do they take it from me or do I give it to them voluntarily. I say we stick to volunteerism and offer help to those that need it. The alternative is to cut programs, increase other taxes or go deeper in debt (regardless what propaganda the anti-gambling folks throw around).

The same thing goes for any and all sin taxes.

privatizing casino's would be the best option.Niagra is fun.Lots to do and see. ...Rama gives shows..The rest offer nothing but slots...Leaving bused in people bored and likely to take out money they don't have. There are too many casinos'.Bank machines should be removed..Governments should not be in the gaming/gambling business..They should be regulating ..Let business take on the business of running casino's ..There would be better promotion...More excitement ..More competition yet Less casino's...More programs for addicted gamblers by a more seemingly caring government ...

Vegas style!...

There are too many casino's ..Governments are addicted to casino revenues..Leave the business of business to business..:) ..Thanks for your post Cannuck!

Even moderate gambling bothers me. Let's look at simple lottery tickets. Is it the rich who buy those tickets? Is it the intellectual working class? Not even. It's the gullible poor looking desperately for an escape from their misery, essentially making such gambling pure exploitation on the part fo the very government supposed to look out for their interests!

Some people waste $10.00 or more a week lining up for, eating and drinking slop from Tim Horton's, with no hope of any return on investment, except fatter waste line and shorter life.

I prefer to "waste" $10.00 a week on lottery. You never know!

Gambling is considered by some to be a tax on the stupid.

And of course the Government is addicted to the income stream.
As others have said, Government's are addicted to all sources of money.

Speeding, drug and alcohol abuse and the like are personal choices that may result in self-harm.
Same thing with gambling.
It's a free country (somewhat free anyway).

And as to increasing regulations concerning lotteries and gambling?
Why?
As long as the games are aboveboard and criminal elements are not skimming the profits why bother?

Just get that money into general revenue.

Why in the world would the government be involved in the gambling industry? Does it really think it makes a profit from it? A private business could make a profit off of gambling because it could wreak the damage on some gambling addict and then let the government deal with the fallout (which is why government ought to regulate them and rightfully so), but the government itself can't possibly be making any profit on gambling, since any profit it makes from gambling then has to go to deal with varying forms of gambling addictions and the social fallout it causes. It would be like the government getting into the tobacco industry to raise funds to help fight lung cancer.

It's also ethically wrong to promote gambling in various ways like urging people to gamble more by upping limits.

Who regulates the regulators..It shows where government interests lie.....I think after Mcguinty harmonizes the sales tax ..We'll sell the casio's to private firms ...Charge tax on winning like the U.S. ..This will occur first in niagra...Just a hunch.. Close the rest..We don't need a casino every 10 km's ..It's an overkill..!

Is the government addicted to gambling revenues?...

What are you talking about?! This a great way for government to make money.

Is it time Canadians organize an intervention?...

No! Gambling is fun! From poker to horses to slots, I've done it all. Don't win big everytime, but as long as you stick to your limit, you'll have a blast.

Who is regulating the regulators...?

Government doesn't need regulation, they have everything under control guy. Just relax. :glasses2:

Hey, I have some great ideas for sources of government revenue:

1. Open casinos in poor neighbourhoods where the poor are desperate to find any means to wealth, and sell lottery tickets wherever possible,

2. Sell cigarettes near school campusses. Get 'em young.

3. Open liquor stores and bars in the poor neighbourhoods of town where people are looking for ways to forget their problems,

4. Find out where the divorce rate is highest and open upbody rub parlours around there. Army training bases could be a good place to start.

Just think of all the revenue the government could make from this to then use to fix all our social problems.
