One of the charming things about pretty little British villages is their quaint cottages with their thatched roofs. Drive through any village and there is bound to be at least one building with a thatched roof.

In fact, there are more thatched roofs in Britain than any other nation in Europe, and from 1979 to 1990 Britain even had a Prime Minister called Margaret Thatcher.

But if you go down to the village of Whiteparish in Wiltshire and you see a thatched roof, it won't be the roof of a building but the roof of a CAR.

Jim Goodland, a thatcher who also runs the village's King's Head pub, used his skill to give his Morris Traveller a thatched roof.

His car looks almost like the Stratford-Upon-Avon cottage of Anne Hathaway, the wife of William Shakespeare.

Thatcher Jim Goodland used his unusual skills to give his car a rustic makeover - by putting a mini thatched roof on it.

The top of his half-timbered Morris Traveller is now completely concealed under the bizarre modification.

And Mr Goodland, who also runs a pub, presents an incredible sight as he drives the car through the streets near his bar, The King's Head, in Whiteparish, Wiltshire.

His vehicle, which almost looks like the Tudor cottage of William Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, is completely roadworthy, he claims.

But the weighty new roof may not have improved its fuel consumption.

The Morris Minor, thought to typify Englishness, was first launched in London in 1948.

Created by car designer Alec Issigonis, who went on to design the iconic Mini, the Morris Minor was a popular car with British families.

The wood-framed Traveller was introduced to the Morris Minor range later on, along with the panel van and pick-up truck version.

It is thought there are more thatched roofs in the United Kingdom than in any other European country.

The ancient art involves covering a roof with dry materials such as wheat straw and water reed.

The thatch is fastened together in bundles, which are layered in a particular way to divert water away from the inner roof.
