Is our Federal Gov't. treating Mr. Lennikov fairly? From his history so far in Canada over 12 years he seems to be the exact type of citizen (if any) that we want to import. Why is he to be shunted back to Russia while a thousand machete wielding gangsters are allowed to stay?

His skin colour methinks, it doesn't mesh with our united colours of Benetton-immigration polices.

Less than 24 hours before he is to be deported, former KGB agent Mikhail Lennikov has been granted sanctuary by First Lutheran Church in Vancouver......
- Burnaby NewsLeader - Ex-KGB agent takes sanctuary in Vancouver church

Good for Lennikov. F'n gov't needs to give its head a shake. The guy's family is here, he spoke out against the KGB, and Canada wants to get rid of him because he was KGB. Send the federal judge to Russia instead.

Yep, sometimes I just ashamed to be a Canadian, or at least have any connection with some that are. But then I guess it's some Canadians' fault for voting that bastard in there.

Good day JML, on your question,
“Is our Federal Gov't. Treating Mr. Lennikov fairly”?

Our Government is mistreating Canadians; mistreating Lennikov shouldn’t be a surprise. I hope Lennikov will stay in Canada.

Soc, it isn't the pols that are sending him back. It's the federal judge. Federal judges make decisions independently of whoever is in the PMO. Give the hate speeches a rest.
In this case, Harpy's gov't should try to intervene. Hard to say whether they will or not.

I'm glad you brought this up JLM. What a travesty. I see absolutely no reason for this man to be sent back to what will likely be certain death for him and maybe even his son. I was sent an on line petition about a month or so regarding this case. It was not the usual one - this was being sent to government and it required name and address. I wonder why you never walk into a store anymore and see a petition there to sign? Maybe if they were still around some things like this would not happen.

I'm with you VI2, this act was just the height of meaness in my books, which could only be committed by a hard hearted bureaucrat (no feelings no brains)

Though I'm not excusing his seeking refuge in the church, I agree that the government is being ridiculous in wanting to deport him.

I'm fine with the government refusing entry if for good reason, but it's at that pre-entry stage that we're to filter potential immigrants, not at the post-entry stage, once they're here already. We have a duty to treat them as humans and let them live their lives once here.
Before entering Canada, the ons is on them to prove why we shoud let them in. Once they're in Canada, the onus should then be on us to prove why we should deport them. Let's treat them like humans.

There are probably dozens of people that have been let into the country that should not be here. People like Han, Saini, etc. Yet this idiotic judge wants Lennikov out because he used to be KGB? After he's been here legally for so long, has a family here, and has spoken against the KGB? Zinn is off his freaking rocker.
We wrote Kenney a letter telling him he should bloody well intervene. Send Zinn over there instead. We don't need judges like him.

No, I don't think Mr. Lennikov is being treated fairly or reasonably, and I've written to my MP about it after reading this morning's report in the Globe&Mail. But we have a thousand machete wielding foreign gangsters here? News to me; who are they?

lol I dunno about machete wielding gangsters, but I know Canada has a pile of con artists, people that have abused women and kids, a few terrorists, people that have committed crimes against humanity, etc.

Yeah, you find them down around Surrey quite a bit, I don't want to get a accused of being racial but they quite often wear a head dress and have a beard.

Anyone know what's happening with Lennikov now, is he any closer to being accepted? Hope I'm never ashamed to be a Canadian.
