A man who killed his wife and two young children in 2006 has been found not criminally responsible because of a mental disorder.

Huc Minh Chau used a meat cleaver to kill his wife, three-year-old daughter and five-month-old son.

The court was told that Chau suffered from depression and schizophrenia and killed his family because he believed they were possessed by evil spirits.

Defence lawyer Peter Say said Chau had coped with his illness for nearly 20 years, but in the six months leading up to the slayings, he began to suffer from hallucinations and delusions.

According to Say, Chau complained to his family doctor who did not increase his medication.

Chau will remain in the Whitby Mental Health Centre.

The Ontario Review Board will ultimately decide whether to release him or if he should remain indefinitely in the psychiatric facility.

Yeah.... he kills his family and get's off scott free.... let's let him back out into society.... sure that sounds like a wonderful idea. :angry3:

We've got to get tough on these kooks who think they can just go crazy with the clever and then not have to worry about working for a living anymore. Give him three months in the bin to get him stable and then toss him out on the streets! That should solve things.
