The B.C. government is providing an additional $41 million for housing to try to get some of the estimated 2,200 homeless people off the streets and into shelters and assistance programs. The B.C. government says homelessness attacks the dignity of citizens.Premier Gordon Campbell made the announcement at the Yukon Shelter in Vancouver's east side Friday, accompanied by Housing Minister Rich Coleman and other civic officials.
"I'm here to tell you that we're going to take a number of steps to help break the cycle of homelessness," Campbell said.
Ah well maybe she should have tossed more cake at the peasantry. She's lucky they didn't drag the guillotine out, like in the good old days when we knew what to do with the crowns mouthpieces.I'v heard her speak lots of times, she's a boring, maudlin sentamentalist who says and does nothing but apologize for deceit and power. Canadians owe her nothing, perhaps a bit more civility when she's being asked to get stuffed but that's about it.
She was appointed for one reason only, to act as a deflector for Canadas criminal involvement in the overthrow of Hati's democraticly elected government. Canada continues to support the suppression of democracy in that country, as well as paveing the way for the brutal use of it's citizens in slave factorys. She is not a nobel person by any stretch of the imagination.

The United States is engaging in a bloody occupation in Iraq; it overthrew the democratically elected government in Haiti, enforced by the Marines; it sowed already devastated Afghanistan with cluster bombs and replaced the Taliban with warlords; it is engaging in ongoing efforts to oust Cuban and Venezuelan governments; it is supporting repression in Colombia; it is constantly threatening Iran, Syria, and North Korea; it offers unconditional support to Israel's bloody occupation of Palestine.
These actions are part of a very deliberate agenda to deny self-determination to the peoples of the world, keeping the world 'safe' for investors, corporations and militarists. This agenda undermines democracy on behalf of elites in the rich countries and their clients in the poor countries.
In most of these ventures, Canada has been openly supportive; in others, its support has been behind the scenes. What is the historical pattern of Canadian foreign policy? What is Canada doing today and why? Opposing imperial depredations is something everyone of conscience must do, but in order to change Canada's policies it is important to know what that entails. The record is mainly one of complicity and hypocrisy, with the occasional open crime.
"....Canada is in a colonial relationship with the US. What the US says goes. Canada imports manufactured goods and exports natural resources. It's colonialism."
Hey Avro, some like me have proper functioning heads and some like you have snot balls to keep thier ears separated. You think there's something wrong with my thinking, now that's hilarious. Couldn't possibly be you could it? Your a funny one.
Did these morons think all their personal problems were the Governor General's fault?
I have never been to Vancouver yet, but isn't the East-side where that swine farmer got most of his victims from? It must be really awful, but what could be done if a lot of them are already hooked on drugs?
Here is a site with photos of all the missing women:

It would interest me to hear about their life's journey.... they probably started off as neglected and abused children. It's all so sad. Aids must be rampant, too.
Most of the people living in the down town east side have no real interest in honest work and are either pan handling, breaking into cars, selling themselves, or are receiving some sort of welfare payment or all of the above. The only reason why people live there is because society has made it permissible for them to do so. These so called “anti-poverty” activists are not offering a solution but rather a band aid. Another shelter, soup kitchen, or hand out is not what these people need. These people need to look after themselves and learn to become independent rather than be supported perpetually and unremittingly in some socialist state where they are encouraged to remain at the bottom. After all why work when you don't have too?Quote has been trimmed, See full post:
I may come off as being cold hearted but when I see someone holding a sign saying they are unemployed and need money for food I usually will inquire them about it. They will usually tell me this, that, and the other happened and some how that's how they ended up holding a sign at a cross walk. Instead of throwing them a few dollars in sympathy I offer them a job and even a ride to work and some even a place to stay. But I have as of yet to have anyone of these so called “helpless” individuals actually take me up on it. Even if I go back to their “spot” and ask why did they not come to work or meet me where I asked them too they will always come up with some excuse or reason why they could not then usually look away to the next person...
Someone had this wonderful idea of homesteading! I think that could work for at least a bunch of them. Someone would have to first show them the ropes, teach them the necessary life skills.
But some, I believe, like their life on the streets, are happy among their friends. The Salvation Army, some Churches provide the basics, and so they are happy to be free and independent.
I heard a lot of them have mental problems. Instead of being drugged and caged in a mental institution they prefer the life outside in freedom, and they have a goal .... to survive another day!
While I agree with your assesment I would ask you to consider the alternative. What would you do if there were no diversity of opinion? Perhaps you'd be complaining about that as well eh. Get drunk eh, no problem, as soon as you forward the check for $57.35 Canadian I'll endeavour to follow your advice in the matter with relish and gusto.
he gave his sollution...... what should the consequence be of not accepting a job when offered? Cut them off any and all assistance.
