A children’s story based on the tale of the Three Little Pigs was rejected for an award after judges became concerned that it would offend Muslims, the Times of London reported.

The animated virtual book for primary school children, The Three Little Cowboy Builders, was also criticized for its potential to offend builders.
The row centered on the Bett awards, which were supported by Becta, the Government’s technology agency for schools. The judges’ remarks, reported on the education technology Web site Merlin John Online, included: “Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?
“The idea of taking a traditional tale and retelling a story is fine, but it should not alienate parts of the workforce. Judges would not recommend this product to the Muslim community in particular.”
Ann Curtis, whose company, Shoo Fly Publishing, produced the CD-Rom, said the criticisms were unjustified and could even “propagate a racist stance”. She said: “I felt disbelief, to be honest. As a small company, we have a strong ethical and moral grounding. We support the rights of all children in the world to have access to education.

It's just silly Thomaska. Even in the original story there we have to assume the wolf was somehow against Muslims because as far as I know it isn't against the religion for there to be pigs. There doesn't seem to be any end to the ways we must appease that religious group.

(not just Muslim) we should give some consideration to what christians fudementalists have demanded and continue to demand from the secular western world we should also be aware of the origins of the greater part of these types of storys, inserted into the news in the greater part of the cases simply to engender and inflame anti-Islamic sentiment with a view to making thier marginalization and murder the acceptable norm. Exactly the type and flavour of propaganda used to facilitate the Jewish Holocaust and exactly the same type of participation in the smearing of an entire group of people. Nothing but wholsale systemic discrimination of the lowest order. Something in the order of material we would expect from the National Inquirer or other tabloid junk publications of no value or importants.
If you look at the story any the judges you will see that it was government sponsered and the judges were government picked, that same government is right now murdering Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq, if it were not a fact that the same government was not found to have lied and mislead it's own citizens in the invasion and conduct of both those wars using exactly the same devices promulgated in the OP of this thread.

A story based on The Three Little Pigs has been rejected by a Government-backed awards event because it might offend Muslims... and builders.

The digital book, retelling the classic children's tale, was criticised by judges who said "the use of pigs raises cultural issues".

Offensive? Publishers of the CD have described the Government education quango's ban as 'political correctness gone mad'



They also claimed the award-winning CD-rom, entitled The Three Little Cowboy Builders, might "alienate parts of the workforce (building trade)".

The "virtual" book is designed for use on computers and interactive whiteboards and aimed at primary school children.

Publishers claim the CD is a 'tongue in cheek' look at the building trade, with an attack on cowboy builders


Its publishers, Shoo-Fly, insist there is nothing offensive in it.

But judges for the annual BETT awards, which recognise excellence in educational technology, claimed they had "concerns about the Asian community" and insisted "the use of pigs raises cultural issues".

As a result, they "could not recommend this product to the Muslim community".

Anne Curtis, of Newcastle-based Shoo Fly, said the idea that including pigs in a story could be interpreted as racism was a "slap in the face" and described the criticism as "inflammatory".

Mrs Curtis said the product was "tongue in cheek" and took a humorous look at the building trade, with an attack on cowboy builders.

The awards are run by Becta, the Government's educational technology agency, Emap Education and the British Educational Suppliers Association.

They said: "This failed to reach the required standard across a number of criteria... In particular, the product was not sufficiently convincing on curriculum and innovation grounds to be shortlisted."
