So much for global warming: British soldier feared drowned in severe floods

Loony Lefties will say that human industry and pollution is causing to Earth the heat up, and that the next can of beer dropped on the floor could cause another species, somewhere on Earth, to become extinct.

But try telling thousands of people across Britain tonight that Global Warming exists when cold weather and severe floods have wreaked havoc across many parts of the country...

Teenage soldier feared drowned as floods sweep Britain

By PAUL SIMS
15th June 2007
Daily Mail

A teenager soldier was swept away in a swollen stream as torrential rain and floods caused chaos across the country.

Rivers burst their banks and drivers were forced to abandon their cars as parts of Britain saw an entire month's rainfall in a single day.

And more than 40 workers were trapped inside their factory after floodwaters up to 6ft deep encircled the building.

Stranded motorists had to be rescued from cars after the heavy rains caused flash floods in country lanes around Ongar, Brentwood and Chelmsford Night shift workers at toolmaker WH Smith & Sons in Minworth, Warwickshire had been due to clock off at 8am.

Manufacturing manager Dennis Rodway said staff had been advised to shelter on the first floor of the two-storey factory after the nearby River Tame burst its banks.

"We have still got power and nobody is going to starve," Mr Rodway joked. "It's just a matter of sitting it out."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the trapped people were not at risk but were waiting for water levels to drop before they left the building.

Search and rescue hunt for the missing soldier who fell into the river at Catterick, North Yorkshire

A massive search was underway last night for the young infantry soldier who was crossing a beck with two fellow recruits while on a routine exercise when they were knocked off their feet by the sudden impact of the wave.

The three men, among 1,200 recruits undergoing a 24-week training programme, got into trouble as flash floods wrought havoc across much of the country.

They had linked arms to cross Risedale Beck near Catterick Garrison, in North Yorkshire, as part of a march when the incident happened at 9am yesterday.

Whilst his fellow recruits were pulled to safety the 17-year-old is believed to have disappeared beneath the water, sparking a full-scale rescue operation.

Within minutes an RAF helicopter was scrambled whilst men from the garrison, the police and fell rescue teams led the ground search for the missing soldier.

Last night, an Army spokesman confirmed: 'The three recruits had their arms linked as they crossed the beck but they were hit by a sudden surge of water.

"Two of the soldiers were rescued and pulled to safety but one is still missing."

As more than a month's rainfall fell across some parts of the country, up to 100 factory workers in the West Midlands were trapped by rising flood waters.

Staff at the WH Smith and Sons toolmakers in Minworth, Warwickshire, were penned in by water levels six feet high after the swollen River Tame burst its banks.

Firefighters battle to reduce the flood level in Essex

Russell Scott, 33, wades through the floodwaters with his one-year-old son, Nicholas, in Fyfield

Fire crews rescued most of the employees by Noon but a further 42 remained trapped upstairs in the building's restaurant waiting for the water to recede.

Among them was Jean Owen, 36, who said: "Water started to come in from everywhere. I've never seen anything like it. It was like a disaster movie."

As the freak weather tore across the country people were evacuated from their homes, schools were closed, roads were blocked and rail services crippled.

Sky News records a woman was stranded in her car as a Sky film crew looked on , unable to help. She was later rescued.

In Essex, motorists had to be rescued from their cars after flash floods left many roads submerged.

Up to three feet of water had to be pumped away from country lanes in Ongar, Brentwood, Chelmsford and Southend.

Some residents in the North Hertfordshire villages of Barkway and Baley were among those evacuated from their homes whilst access roads were blocked by landslips.

Among the worst hit areas was Edgbaston which received more than 3.5inches of rain in just 24 hours - more than its estimated average rainfall for June.

In Bingley, West Yorkshire, more than 2.8inches (71mm) of rain in the same space of time whilst Coleshill in Warwickshire also suffered with 1.9inches (49mm).

In South Yorkshire, the fire service received up to 200 calls between Midnight and 8am yesterday morning from residents worried about the rising water level in their homes.

A spokeswoman said: "One caller just rang to say the water was now at the top step of his cellar."

Motorists had to be rescued from their vehicles after they were stranded in waist high water as the River Sheaf and River Don burst their banks.

More than a dozen roads across Sheffield and Rotherham were blocked, at least 10 schools in the region were closed and 52 elderly residents evacuated from their nursing home.

Firefighters were called to deal with some roads in Essex which had become impassable

A 14-year-old boy was rescued after he fell into a swollen river in the Chapeltown area of Sheffield.

Craig Stenton, 41, dashed to help the youngster after hearing his screams.

He said: "I could see a kid swirling around in the water. I grabbed a clothes prop to try and hook him out but it was no use. "I ran further along and saw he had got stuck on a branch so I waded in and dragged him out." South Yorkshire Police declared the flooding a major incident and called in all senior officers to coordinate operations.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency issued flood warnings for Norfolk, Suffolk, Yorkshire, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire.

A spokesman said: "We have had very, very heavy rainfall. It's not over yet and will be moving slowly northwards.

"We would remind people to be vigilant and to make sure they are aware of the threat of flooding."
The weather also hit a number of sporting events. At Chester-Le-Street, County Durham, where England's cricketers were due to take on the West Indies, play was abandoned.

In London, the covers came on at the Artois tennis championships at Queen's while the day's race meeting in York was called off.

A Met Office forecaster said further heavy showers were due over the weekend but nothing like the deluge seen in the last 48 hours.

"It should get drier over the weekend, but we are likely to see some lighter showers on Saturday and Sunday.

"Temperatures should remain around the seasonal average of 18 to 19C, but it will feel a lot cooler than recently."

He added: "June is a month where we might well see very heavy showers deposit quite a lot of rain in a very short space of time.

"The unusual thing here is the prolonged nature of the rain which is simply down to the fact that the weather front is slower moving."

It doesn't matter what temperatures do all across the globe...that is local weather..which according to the teachings of the warming church, are allowed.

It only matters if the temperature underneath a rock on a glacier in Greenland is one degree warmer than it was 200 years ago. Global warming can only be measured by taking the earths temperature where it's...well...warmer.

Its actually by going on average, its also funny how science that helped build modern industry is now wrong. Yet those machines based upon the principles still work.

I find it funny that when extra water is thrown into the atmosphere and causes floods, you don't think that could have anything to do with Ice melting?

Don't get me wrong, Global warming doesn't need to be a problem , it can be a great benefit (terraforming in action) if you plan for it. However, we have built all our infrastructure on the faulty assumption the world would stop changing as if by magic.

Our cities are coastal and the vast tracks of northern land (which would become arable when the southern farmlands become desert) are not even remotely able to accept migrations of people or industry.

But to claim something you learned (and could do experiments with) in first grade is a little daft. Its like saying heavier objects fall faster, we all proved in grade school it doesn't (or is my school the only one that made the clsoed ecosystems with the jars)

God, we have flooding in Alberta and we have flooding all over B.C. because of heavy rain combined with early snow melts. But heaven forbid that it might be from global warming even though the G.W. warnings included the threat of extreme weather. Ignorance just loves company.

What was it like in the days before we had extreme weather conditions?

What weather has the GW crowd not blamed on GW? They even blame colder weather on GW. So what are us ignoramuses who just can't think outside the whole "colder weather=no global warming" box supposed to do? Just take Albore's word for it and start buying carbon credits?

By the way, that whole predicting extreme weather thing is kinda like predicting the sun will rise in the east

The BC rain comes from the ocean. The snow melts are from a great ski season. Are you going to blame global warming on the good skiing?

ok, find the fault in this assumption:

Putting more carbon into the biosphere raises temperatures.

Therefore, if we take all the carbon that was in the biosphere in the Era of the dinosaurs and put it back into the biosphere, it will be as warm as when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Its not rocket science, its pretty hard to argue that basic concept from which our complete understanding of the atmosphere is based on.

Global warming is happening . All the arguments against have been used up. There is enough clear evidence that global warming is happening. The reasons? Who cares?

Tell that to Skuzuki and Gore; they say it's you and me who are causing it and they are using that reasoning to try and control our actions.

So, why are you so sure you aren't doing anything to cause it?

Your house is on fire, the neighbour says its those scented candles you like, do you really care if thats the cause or not? stop using them so much.

You see, this is one of the reasons that global warming doesn't really matter at all. So many people refuse the idea that they have to drastically change their lifestyle to prevent a major upheaval in weather and shape of the land mass, that it's only upsetting to everyone to tell them about it. Your doctor knows this concept well when s/he doesn't tell you that your illness is going to kick your *** and it won't take long. Or the oxygen masks fall from the roof compartments of the plane that's about to run you into the ground at 6oo miles an hour. Get happy and don't worry.

Once you can accept that idea that "WE" are no where as near the important species on this planet as "we think we are", you can start to grasp the idea that simply wiping the lot of us out and whatever other creatures go with us in our extinction, doesn't mean much on the timeline and scale of the planet.

And the truth is, and I don't mean to sound mean, but when you are gone, no one is really going to miss you after 60 years let alone a few hundred thousand.

So go ahead and do what you gotta do and try to enjoy yourself my dears. Don't feel guilty either because those wonderful kids you are saving the planet for, don't much like you anyway. You're in the way, they don't care about it anyway, and most are sick to death of listening to you harp about the god damned problems you created all by yourself.

When push comes to shove there will always be those screaming "the end of the world is nigh", as there will always be those who mock the disaster predictors with "bah, humbug, it'll never happen".

Which of the two view points is correct - well invariably neither as is generally the case with extreme beliefs of any shape or form. Which will be proven correct - well I'd put money on the fact that I will never find out and that the planet will still be here when I leave it.

Ok, so then what caused the biosphere to have so much carbon in the days of the dinosaurs? Last time I checked they didn't drive SUV's, produce electricity or refine gasoline! So if it was warm back then, why can't this "global warming" that some say we are going through, be a natural phenomena? Just like in the days of the dinosaurs?

The world did not warm up and cool down many times before you bought your first car.......That is rubbish. There have been lots of macro variations in weather but climate change has been a steady, gradual increase in mean global temperatures. The evidence of global warming is obvious for anyone who takes the time to look. One needs only to look a the glaciers that have disappeared, or the shrinking ice cover at both poles and Greenland. Or look at the flooding that is happening all over the world. Every year for the last thirty years has with few exceptions, has been the warmest year on record. Anyone who denies that global warming is happening is blind or stupid.

Scientists have told us that the warming is due to the increase of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. We know for a fact that since the start of the industrial revolution, we have pumped around eight trillion tons of carbon into the atmosphere.....carbon that was safely buried in the ground. People can say that all this makes no difference.......but global temperatures are rising. People can say that cyclical changes in the output of energy from the sun are causing global warming but there is no indication that the sun's energy output has changed to cause the global warming changes we have seen. Meanwhile, the global temperatures are rising. It has even been suggested that the sun was causing other planets in the Solar System to warm up but this has been proven to be false.

The evidence of global warming is there for all of us to see....if only we look....

Controversy....

The military industrial complex generated decades of cold war and fear of the Soviet Union...

Right-wing Republican machinery painted the Russkies as the great threat to world peace....Nuclear proliferation....socialism oozing across the free-market landscape....godless heathens spreading atheism...

I'm not suprised that there are staunch (predominantly right-wing) "thinkers" arguing that there is no such thing as global warming....

In the greed-driven underbelly of everything that's wrong with the world...fear of Russia was a great way to bolster the need for massive development of the American military....

Lots of people had jobs building weapons and America has enjoyed arming the world with everything from small arms to Weapons of Mass Destruction....business was good....

The United States postured ..was prepared to take the world into WWIII because the Soviet's had equipped Castro with missiles.....Now of course the Universal Satan...(U.S.) will salt the European landscape with missiles around the Federated Russian State.....

These great engineers of social opinion...the Universal Satan...don't want an end to the fear and certainly don't want an end to the potential dollars to be made...building and expanding their military...for "defensive purposes" of course... Luckily they stomped on the Chinese in Viet Nam and made the world safer...Similarly...Iraq...who the Universal Satan supplied weapons and intel...and once called their "ally"...felt the rush of Shock and Awe...all in the name of peace of course....

Now some few scientists have proven that we (the inhabitants of this planet) have and are contributing to the accelerated cycle of global warming/cooling...in a warming period and the Universal Satan rolls out the same double-talk fear mongering. "The costs of addressing global warming will bring devastation to the world...(U.S.)"..."It's a bogeyman summoned from the minds of the liberal left-wing pinko-commie tree-hugger hippie welfare leeches to spread communism atheism and evil across the world..."

In fact, the Universal Satan has had more and repeated occasions of stimulating war and conflict than the Soviet Union ever did. The Universal Satan was the nation declaring itself as enjoying the "right" to plan plot and execute "regime-change"...to financially and militarily support some of the most oppressive regimes ever seen by human civilization...all over the world...

The same "good-defense"...as employed by tobacco industry millionaires in pooh-poohing the negative effects of smoking...despite a solid scientific basis for making the claim that cigarettes caused cancer..among several other diseases and respiratory conditions....has been rolled out (by many of the same people paid to white-wash the tobacco threat to health) to pooh-pooh the anthropic contribution to greenhouse gases..and global warming attributable to human industry....

The Universal Satan contributes 25% of all the worlds filth in our oceans and atmosphere...does anyone really think that these people care whether the science behind global warming is true and accurate..? Of course they don't!

What they care much more about is making the world ..Planet America.....and even if that Planet America suffers floods, rising ocean levels, loss of potable water (drought), see's people gasping for air on city streets and wars being fought for water....as long as there's a dollar to be made by some arrogant ingnorant member of the Universal Satan....the thrust will remain "business as usual"...

Certainly it's far better to have the conditioned consumers of the Universal Satan doubt that human industry bears any responsibility.... Just like the wars assassinations regime changes oppressive governments, corruption in industry and manufacturing...it's all just the world proceeding as "normal".

Yeah...global warming what a joke....

Another great myth brought to your attention by international science...and rebuked rebuffed and refuted by the same people who've spent the bulk of their time...telling the whole world what to think how to think and exercising the largest military the world has ever seen...

Of course it's nonsense..... Uncle Sam wouldn't lie to you ....would he?

You're asking where did the greenhouse gases come from? There was more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere before the dinosaurs came around, in fact it was very high until calcifying plankton came about.

But you're kinda close in a round about way. The carbon has been stored in the rock, removed from the biosphere until the ancient fuels are pumped up, processed, oxidized and released in gaseous form. Now it is back in the biosphere.

Carbon dioxide makes up something like 3 parts out of ten thousand right now in our atmosphere. Along with water vapour and the other ghg's that has been enough to keep the average temperature at approximately 14 degrees. Now we're increasing those ghg concentrations by adding more to the glass so to speak. It's not rocket science...

I read that at the time of the romans the world was actually alot warmer than it was today and that it continued to be warm until the end of the viking age when the world got cooler again. It would make sense cause thats when greenland became unhospitale again. I dunno it just seems like cycles. I also read that the global temperature corresponds the sunspot activity cause they say that mars is heating up at the moment also. I dunno

BRAVO! BRAVO!

The only place where local weather matters is on a glacier in Greenland... so true... so VERY TRUE!

"Just look at those rocks in Greenland!'
"Well...just look at the floods and record cold in England."
"BLASPHEMY! THAT IS LOCAL WEATHER!"

Right... and let me reiterate that it is "you and me" and not them. They are gobbling up more energy than we'll ever dream of and vomiting more carbon in the air as well.

But they are the BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE and deserving of that pleasure.
