Sex education depends on the PARENTS.

Schools can offer it, but the parents MUST validate the course to be taught.

Big contreversy awhile back about a "different lifesyles" video that had gay couples and was shown to KIDS in grade 2 and 3. Parents want their kids to be kids as long as possible and not be learning of gay parents... same thing with gays being openly romantic, that PO's alot of parents.

Basically parents want their kids to be kids (and innocent) for as long as possible. That has to be respected and understood.

I don't think sex ed. is really needed that much. When I hit puberty I developed and learned everything by means of everyday media, and by the time we had sex ed classes in Gr. 9 it was pretty boring and pointless.

MOST kids learn all this stuff on their own..

BTW snfu, sexually experimenting shouldn't be done in school... do it outside of school.

BTW what is the age of consent in the USA.... can 6th graders legally have sex?

I agree to an extent Westmanguy about Sex-ed and kids staying kids. But I've come to understand and really believe that teaching children about their bodies, names of parts etc. may help them keep their innocence longer. I think there are too many dangers out there now in regards to sexual abuse of children, and the more a child is able to speak about their bodies, the more they are able to recognize if someone is touching something they shouldn't be. But I TOTALLY agree that parents should be educating their children on this issue! Anyway, not the point of this thread, I understand, that's just the way my mind thinks.

Also, I don't know what the age of consent is in the US. But if it's two 6th graders, you can't put them in jail. There's probably has to be a large age difference, unless one forced himself on the other.

CNN had another student sex horror on last night. I can't find it with a google search. The segment in question stated a US teacher left her class in the gym along for a few minutes. When she returned to her group of fifth graders, two were having intercourse, several others were openly fondling each other and the rest were standing around watching the show. I don't think any other country in the world has so sexualized its children as the US. Is this becoming a trend? It has got to be extremely embarrassing to American authorities. The country has dropped the ball completely with its children.
