Head of Air India inquiry says he'll shut down if evidence not released

OTTAWA (CP) - The head of the Air India inquiry is threatening to shut down the investigation and close up shop unless the government relents on its claims that key documents and testimony must remain secret for national security reasons. Addressing a hushed hearing room Monday, former Supreme Court justice John Major said federal lawyers are insisting on such heavy censorship of written material that it makes the paper trail surrounding the 1985 bombing "meaningless."
That in turn makes it difficult to question witnesses

One of the strange things about this trial is that one man has been convicted of building the bomb but the man he apparently built the bomb for, was acquitted by a judge who cited lack of evidence. This lack of evidence didn't help the guy who was convicted.

I saw this on the telly this morning what a mess to inquire about, all the blacked out stuff all this time later.

I guess we have to expect this sort of thing if we have trials that run for twenty years or more. In this case witnesses were intimidated, murdered, or just died. The whole case died of politically correctness.
