Certain things have become eminently clear:

1) Bush has no plan to correct the mess he created in Iraq.

2) The Republican party has no rational plan.

3) The American public is fed up with that damn war.

4) The public wants an end to it, now.

Bush says he is open to talks. Part of that is window dressing, part of it is face saving. It is clear that he does not want the war to end as he seeks an endless avalanche of war profits for those military industrial types who pull his puppet strings. But he to some extent is also a realist in that he knows that the Republican party will doom itself as it did in the early 1970s because the public eventually tires of warism, corruption, and corporate welfare which are the hallmarks of this party. Thus, his present claim to being open to such talks is a way to give the appearance of open mindedness and flexibility. Nothing more.
