A Republican attack ad that slams Canada as a bad neighbour on the world stage is inappropriate but not a big deal, said U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins.

yeh sure, it is not a big deal to Wilkins, but it is our world-wide reputation and defamation of a country is not acceptable. We have been good neighbours, and to not take action will be cowardly of us. This ad should be removed or it should be made part of a defamation of character lawsuit.

Are you serious? We have had Prime Minsters say not so nice things about the Americans, and Bush....we have had MPs call bush an Idiot....I mean its not liek some of us arent Anti-American....

It shouldnt matter, infact it doesnt really bother me at all...why? Its not true, they can say what they want, as much as they want its not true.....They are just uninformed, or useing the fact the most Americans dont know **** about Canada to their advantage to smear the Democrats...big deal. They can lie all they want.

At least when we said Bush was an Idiot, its wasnt 100% Incorrect eh?

What is an "AS" researcher? What is this "AS" you are talking about? Did you drop an s and are you talking about an "ASS"?

LOL Northstar, if you said the sky is "blue" the nay sayers would say it's "sky blue" and fight you to the death to prove you wrong. The Liberals are busy at the moment pandering to the extreme left, give them a chance to rebuttal any topic and they should be ready around August 2007. Don't hold your breath okay, you could smother from the Nanny syndrome thou. Sookie anyone one loose a sookie???

Was Victoria, now Ottawa
I personally don’t care what an American political campaign ad said about Canada. You can’t control what everyone in the world thinks of your country. Lots of Canadian leaders have taken jabs at the States. So who cares? It was stupid, but not a big deal.

Thanks for the link, maybe in the future CTV can provide a link of the actual ad.

I still think it is a very cheap and unfair swipe, and dispicable when you think our boys are being shipped home in body bags!!

The point is that if you let one cross-the-country and around-the-world Media campaign include such a nasty insult, you are openning the door for others. Cartoons are one thing, but to use a derogary remark in such a manner carries a directness that can't be laughed away.

We are doing a grievous dis-service to those who are serving oversees, and for those who have already lost their lives, and for those who are working hard in other ways, such as our humanitarian aid workers, that have made a significant difference in the world--if we just allow this slander to happen.

Imagine if it was the other way around, the American's would not be laughing, ---they would be furious.

If we roll over on this we might as well change our name to Canamerica, and add some stars and stripes to our flag....You teach others how to treat you, and this is not acceptable.

That ad, was pure junk. I can not believe anyone would take that seriously. It looks more like a parody on Air Farce then a real political ad, even with its implied sacasm. What childish drivel.

American apologetics trumps the truth about our troops.

It doesn't take a lot of effort considering its content to figure out the ad is stupid but Wilkins has no ****ing business telling us its no big deal if politicians in his country tell their constituents our troops aren't doing anything. and his being a dork in the first place is no excuse. neither is the way Bush gets slagged. Bush isn't in a war zone. not without being armed with a plastic turkey. and Harper being up Bush's butt crack is no excuse for him letting the ambassador get away with it. he should be standing up for our troops and demanding an apology. at the least.

a stupid ad is one thing. a stupid ambassador is something else entirely.

The situation that is unfolding in the world is that we are facing the unstable threats of the master of Torture and Oppression, North Korea's Crazy Kim, who is paranoid that someone is going to pop his little bubble and maybe release some thousands of prison camp slaves, and take away his weapons of mass distruction.
The second situation is the irrational Iranian Prez Mad ARMEGETTIN', who is buzy cooking up a batch of uranium chemical goobly-gook in order to quickly plunk together a nuclear warhead before the slow and politically correct UN shuts them down.
Then thre is the wild, wild, east, where we have our boys and girls flung all over the place, ten here, thirty five there, a hundred here...

And so now the Americans' after being the target of invasion, after taking the leadership role in entering into the war on terrorism, after being the butt-joke of everyone, have turned the tables on us in this nasty slurr.

The question is, is it really nothing? OR facing what is amounting to World War three, we need to commit and back the troops we have sent and do everything in our power to stand behind our troops and stand with the other countries that have commited to world peace.

Our country has it's foundations from the wars that have been fought, and the unwavering commitment of everyone behind the purpose of the wars and the efforts of our troops. If the war against the Nazi's hadn't been answered, where would our world be now. These threats are from countries who are desprete to be in charge of the world, and if you read the news it is frightening the level of threat a nuclear war head presents. This threat has to be exterminated, and the cost is going to be more fighting and more casualties.

Harper might not be saying anything because it is true, and the US and Bush have been criticised and held responsible for a war that was started by the Terrorists.

Perhaps the message here, as much as l resent the nastiness, is about looking at the situation for what it is and acknowledging that we are NOT doing enough.

I agree with Wilkins. It is not a big deal.It was aimed at his opponent not at Canada. Then again,a lot of progressives think we should pull out of Afghanistan because Stronach's virginal shroud was soiled.Get a life.
