Harry on bowler hat parade
14th May 2006

Prince Harry and colleagues wearing bowler hat and suit.

When not on Army duty, his favoured apparel tends towards the casual if not downright scruffy.

But yesterday Prince Harry risked permanent loss of his street cred when he stepped out in smart City suit, bowler hat and even a rolled-up brolly.

The 21-year-old was making his first appearance at the annual Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association Parade in Hyde Park.

Suits and bowlers are traditionally worn to reflect the 'proper order of dress' which applied before World War I.

Before the parade, Harry chatted to colleagues from the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals.

A wreath was laid in memory of fallen members of the Cavalry before a short memorial service was held in front of the bandstand.

The prince was commissioned as an Army officer last month after passing out from Sandhurst.

This month he will begin training to be a troop leader of an armoured reconnaissance at Bovington Camp, Dorset.
