The City Council of New Zealand's capital, Wellington, has had its name taken over by a hardcore pornography website. The council has spent more than a year battling to shut down the site.
Council spokesman Richard MacLean said because the council had been unable to contact the domain owner, there had been no moves to buy the name.
"We did manage to get a local service provider to shut it down temporarily after photographs and defamatory comments about various civic figures were posted on it. Unfortunately the site is now hosted in Romania so there are practicalities involved in trying to find this person."
