Wikileaks Release: 'Vault 7'

By Kate on March 7, 2017 10:54 AM | 23 Comments

And it's ugly.
A total of 8,761 documents have been published as part of 'Year Zero', the first in a series of leaks the whistleblower organization has dubbed 'Vault 7.' WikiLeaks said that 'Year Zero' revealed details of the CIA's "global covert hacking program," including "weaponized exploits" used against company products including "Apple's iPhone, Google's Android and Microsoft's Windows and even Samsung TVs, which are turned into covert microphones."

WikiLeaks tweeted the leak, which it claims came from a network inside the CIA's Center for Cyber Intelligence in Langley, Virginia.

Among the key topical revelations is that the CIA can engage in "false flag" cyberattacks which portray Russia as the assailant. Discussing the CIA's Remote Devices Branch's UMBRAGE group, Wikileaks' source notes that it "collects and maintains a substantial library of attack techniques 'stolen' from malware produced in other states including the Russian Federation.
I need more coffee. This is going to be a long, long day.

WikiLeaks has published what it claims is the largest ever release of confidential documents on the CIA. It includes more than 8,000 documents as part of ‘Vault 7’, a series of leaks on the agency, which have allegedly emerged from the CIA's Center For Cyber Intelligence in Langley, and which can be seen on the org chart below, which Wikileaks also released:

the interesting part revealed is that they are able to make a hack appear to be done by another source. So it appears the Russians hacked the DNC, may just be that, APPEARED

Or as John McAfee put it - "If it looks like you were hacked by the Russians, you weren't" or something to that effect. The Russians wouldn't take credit - they would give that honour to the Chinese or the Israelis.

First Trump talks about wiretaps, then the left and the MSM mocks him, and now THIS.
There is no way I can find enough popcorn for the kind of day this is going to be LOL

If any of you had any doubts that Wikileaks is a Russian organ, post Snowden, there is your proof.

Wait until they publish the docs on Russian hacking.

Nothing new here a dope dealer of my acquaintance told me ages ago that cops could use a cell phone as a microphone to listen into whatever-he always put any in his place in the fridge when doing business.

Yup. CIA has great cyber hacking skills. A real shocker would be if they didn't.

Short of "the CIA brought down the World Trade Center", this will only entertain conspiracy theorists and Trumpites (so, in other words, the wingnuts)

It looks like, to paraphrase General Turgeson (played by George C. Scott) in Dr. Strangelove, the spaghetti is about to hit the fan:

WikiLeaks Signals That Data Dump on CIA Hacking is Only the Beginning

Drain that establishment swamp guys!

Will WikiLeaks work with tech firms to defeat CIA hacking?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks raised the prospect Wednesday of sharing sensitive details it uncovered about CIA hacking tools with leading technology companies whose flagship products and services were targeted by the government's hacker-spies.

If that sharing should take place, the unusual cooperation would give companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and others an opportunity to identify and repair any flaws in their software and devices that were being exploited by U.S. spy agencies and some foreign allies, as described in nearly 9,000 pages of secret CIA files WikiLeaks published on Tuesday.

I imagine a lot of people expect and want the CIA to be able to hack technologies to spy on people. It's what they do. They're the spy organization.

It would be a scandal if the CIA didn't have hacking capabilities. The rest of the world's spies are hacking computers in the 21st century, meanwhile the CIA is still cutting eye holes in newspapers.

But don't get me wrong. I don't want to defend the CIA. It is a terrorist organization, but it's weird say it's scandalous that the CIA is hacking people's phones. What the hell did you expect?

Wikileaks works for Russia, now that Snowden is there by Russian sufferage. You know, of course, that every technology that the CIA uses is at least mirrored and maybe surpassed by Russian government hacking. Again, we see a pro-Russian Alt-Reich supporting a pro-Russian Presidency all the while attacking the United States security apparatus. This is treasonable madness.

they probably don't expect them present info that implies the Russians did something.

they probably don't expect them to hack the DNC.

which is normal, but if they DID fukk about like that, and Judical Watch's lawsuit against them produces yuge fruit...well then, it's time for a good draining.

Assange and his hackers are pinheads who've obviously never been in non-fictional danger; they think that the world is full of good people. They can do whatever they want to make themselves feel superior and continue wearing their rebel hats, but intelligence has and will continue to monitor who they want. The press is getting a juicy story, but the same information is collected by many.

PSA: This incorrectly implies CIA hacked these apps / encryption. But the docs show iOS/Android are what got hacked - a much bigger problem.

Still working through the publication, but what @Wikileaks has here is genuinely a big deal. Looks authentic.

Edward Snowden‏Verified account @Snowden
If you're writing about the CIA/@Wikileaks story, here's the big deal: first public evidence USG secretly paying to keep US software unsafe.

I never thought that I'd end up defending the CIA but they are, by far, the lesser evil out there.

DID the CIA assassinate journalist Michael Hastings?

WikiLeaks’ release on Tuesday of a massive trove of secret CIA documents has reignited conspiracy theories which have swirled since 2013, with revelations the spy agency was attempting to remotely hack vehicles.

“As of October 2014 the CIA was also looking at infecting the vehicle control systems used by modern cars and trucks,” WikiLeaks writes. “The purpose of such control is not specified, but it would permit the CIA to engage in nearly undetectable assassinations.”

Hastings, an acclaimed war correspondent and vocal critic of government mass surveillance, died in the early hours of Tuesday, June 18, 2013, when his Mercedes C250 Coupe apparently lost control and burst into flames before slamming into a palm tree.

Witnesses to the accident, which occurred around 4:25am in the leafy Hancock Park neighbourhood of Los Angeles, said the car appeared to be travelling at top speed and was creating “sparks and flames” before it went off the road.
