Serial Killer Fears As Six Ohio Women Vanish

The FBI is investigating the murders of four women and disappearances of two others in a small Ohio town over the last year.

Authorities say they started going missing from the town of Chillicothe in May last year, raising fears that a serial killer could be at large.

Four of the women's bodies have been found in streams and creeks near the town.

Staff Lieutenant Mike Preston, of the Ross County Sheriff's Department, told The Washington Post: "I don't want to come out and say 'yes, we have a serial killer', but it's a small community that we live in... and the number of females who have come up missing, and then the bodies that we've found, that's quite a bit for our community.

"The community is starting to get concerned. Everyone just wants answers."

Most of the women had a history of drug use, and some had reportedly worked as prostitutes to pay for their drug habits.

The first woman in the investigation is Charlotte Trego, 28, a mother of two who was last seen on 3 May last year.

Tameka Lynch, a 30-year-old mother of three, vanished on the same day and the two women knew each other.

Her body was found on 24 May on a sandbar in Paint Creek, just outside Chillicothe.

A coroner's officer determined she had died from a drug overdose, but her mother Angela Robinson told ABC News she believed her daughter had died before she was put in the water.

She said: "She was scared to death of water. She wouldn't go swimming, and she was scared of the woods."

The third woman to disappear was Wanda Lemons, 37, who was last heard from on 1 November last year. She has five children.

Shasta Himelrick, 20, was the fourth woman to vanish on Christmas Day, 2014.

The Chillicothe Gazette reported that she was pregnant and her body was found in a river on 2 January. A coroner ruled her death a suicide because there was "no sign of pre-mortem trauma", the newspaper reported.

The fifth woman in the investigation was Timberly Clayton, whose body was found in a ditch last month. She had been shot in the head three times. Police have announced a suspect over her death.

Tiffany Sayre went missing on 11 May this year after finishing work at a motel. The mother of two's body was found wrapped in a sheet in a drainage pipe on 20 June.

Chillicothe, which has a population below 22,000, is around 60 miles south of Columbus.
