A female Channel 4 newsreader has been thrown out of a mosque on what has been the national "Visit My Mosque Day".

Cathy Newman
expressed surprise that she had been turned away and explained that she was there to mark the nationwide event organized by The Muslim Council of Britain.

It is not clear whether the mosque in Streatham, south London, which turned Miss Newman away, was participating in the event.

The event saw mosques nationwide opening their doors to the general public and has been designed to ease tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims after the terrorist attacks in France. Mosques shared tea and cakes and gave an insight into the day-to-day goings on of a busy Muslim centre of worship. Mosques also invited leaders of other faiths.

Cathy Newman, the Channel 4 News presenter, was ushered out of a London mosque, despite being “respectfully” dressed on Visit My Mosque Day, she has revealed.

The journalist expressed surprise that she had been turned away and explained that she was there to mark the nationwide event organized by The Muslim Council of Britain.

She revealed on Twitter that she had later been given a “warm welcome” at another mosque nearby.

A number of mosques across the country have opened their doors to the general public for Visit My Mosque Day.

Today's nationwide Visit My Mosque Day, which saw the general public invited to participating mosques around the country, was designed to ease tensions in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks

It is not clear whether the mosque in Streatham, south London, which turned Miss Newman away, was participating in the event.

She wrote on Twitter: “Well I just visited Streatham mosque for #VisitMyMosque day and was surprised to find myself ushered out of the door.”

“I was respectfully dressed, head covering and no shoes but a man ushered me back onto the street. I said I was there for #VisitMyMosque but it made no difference.”

She said she went on to receive a “wonderful warm welcome” at the nearby Hyderi Centre, where she enjoyed tea and cake with other visitors.

Miss Newman's comments sparked debate on Twitter, with some suggesting she had fallen foul of sexism.

Louise Mensch, the former Tory MP, wrote online: “Giant misogynistic fail of #VisitMyMosque, @MuslimCouncil, shutting @cathynewman out. Statement?”

More than 20 mosques were expected to open their doors to the public for Visit My Mosque Day, an initiative designed to reach out to the public after heightened tensions caused by the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris.

Streatham Mosque is not listed on the Muslim Council of Britain's list of participating mosques, although it is not thought to be exhaustive. The Hyderi Centre is on the list.

Neither the Streatham Mosque nor the Muslim Council of Britain could be contacted for comment.

When did a news crew fit the description of 'general public'. Want to know how fast my local RCC would escort me to the door if I came in with a camera crew? Please do carry on, hit pieces have a limited value so dribble on.

Where does it say she was part of a news crew?

What do you expect from a throwback religion that treats women like cattle..
You are referencing the Christian witch hunts right?

I know you like living in the past, like your throwback religion you defend..

It's 2015, women have the right to vote, drive a car, go to school and work for a living and in many states homosexuals can get married... (so you're in luck)

I know in many Islamic countries the above is still illegal.. Saudi Arabia and Iran come to mind.

The punishment for reading a bible in Saudi Arabia ... According to reports sent to us from Arabia, this is a new punishment used on at least one person found to possess a bible [the image is an example of the damage].

This is bogus because the Bible is identified as The Book in the Koran in various passages which I have quoted previously on other threads:

1. Word of God (kalam Allah) - 2:75
2. Book of God (kitab Allah) - 2:101; 3:23; 5:44; 28:49

numerous quotes follow here:

The Qur'an’s View of the Bible

While it is true that certain Mosaic/Messianic laws were altered by Koranic laws in their religion, nothing in Islam views the book as profane or as violative of Islamic religion. Therefore, the link showing that injured hand has no validity whatsoever.

Yes that is true... for now. We support them, but we also criticize them for their backward behavior.

They support us in our fight with Iran. Sometimes alliances make strange bed fellows.

It does not mean their culture and Islamic religion is any less backward.

The US is now supporting Syria. ;)

The US is toast in the area, they lost their chance at being the big player.

Man, the USA should pull out of the region along with the UK, Canada and other Western Countries..

Right now it's Muslims killing Muslims...

The surrounding Muslim nations need to sort this out.. Jordan has stepped up willing to hang all the ISIS Terrorist.

The West needs to restrict Muslims travel and start sending any ISIS Terrorist sympathizer back to Iraq, let ISIS deal with them..

...did I mention, it's Muslims killing Muslims..

Seems the Christians fuked up, they should have settled on the land with all the oil instead of the places where it is hard to get. If that isn't karma I don't know what would be.

Reality check dumbazz, the reason the oil is so cheap is because Canada and the USA are producing more than the Middle East..

The West no longer needs the Middle East.. let it burn.

All the more reason for the USA to GTFO of the Middle East and its politics. Let them fend for themselves and find their own solutions to their problems.

Yup pretty sure that is what I stated above..

Let the Islamic countries deal with ISIS or the Leaders of Jordan, Saudi Arabia and others may lose their title and possibly their lives.. like Yemen.

China and Russia are huge markets and can buy the oil we no longer have use for. India is also developing and can readily be a part of those markets as well.
