Some people raised or are raising their children to actually be adults. Some people seem fully aware that their child is going to be an adult in the world.
Some people enjoy the person their child is and are so encouraging of that little spirit that they raise amazing adults.
Some people don't seem to have a clue that the small human looking shape they've created is actually a living breathing person who will one day be a independent person attempting to navigate in the world.
I sometimes feel that some people who have babies feel the baby is like a pet. Cute, goes well with their outfit and provides them with something to do and some attention. But the reality of that baby being a real person seems to not make it to their conciousness.
