I wonder if this is a case of bad policing trying to peg a big crime on a petty criminal as the media will undoubtedly portray this or whether this in one of those classic Canadian police stories where they know the guy is guilty beyond doubt but lack the type of evidence that a court will accept.
Either way, the guy should leave Alberta if he really wants to start a new life.
