KABUL — A gunman dressed in an Afghan uniform opened fire Tuesday on foreign troops at an officers’ training school, killing an American and wounding more than a dozen other foreign troops, including a German general, Afghan and international officials said.

The New York Times reported the American killed was a major general, the highest-ranking American servicemember to be killed in Afghanistan.

A U.S. defense official would only confirm that one U.S. servicemember was killed among about a dozen U.S. casualties.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force confirmed one ISAF member was killed and said the incident was under investigation.

Very sad news. He, like the rest of the US personnel, should have been stateside and attending to our domestic needs. No further use in wasting our resources or personnel there.

I understand that the assassin here was one trained by US authorities. Interesting that those trained by the US are now armed and empowered to cause further troubles. Anyone out there still believes we belong in Afghanistan?

Yeah, the world would be a lot better off if the USSR or China was the most powerful nation on the planet.
