Armed good Samaritan comes to the aid of purse-snatching victim - YouTube

Two people who attempted to steal a 30-year-old mother’s purse in a Texas parking lot ended up dragging the woman across said parking lot.

Fortunately, an onlooker who had a weapon concealed on his person saved the mother from both robbery and from potential injury.

Brenda Vasquez, manager of a Houston Family Dollar store, witnessed the incident.

“This lady opens her car door, grabs the woman’s purse and they reverse,” Vasquez described. “While they’re trying to reverse, the lady is holding on to her purse still, chasing them all the way to the middle.”

At that point, the armed stranger came to the mother’s rescue. Vasquez said that the “good Samaritan came out, drew his weapon and scared them.”

But he didn’t stop there: the man pulled the would-be thieves, 34-year-old Shamarion Diana Brooks and 48-year-old Jesse Leroy Grace, from the car, forced them to lie on the ground, and stood over them until police arrived on the scene.

Both suspects were arrested by the Houston Police Department. Brooks faces felony charges of possession of an unlawful substance and robbery by threat; Grace has been charged with felony counts of unauthorized use of motor vehicle and robbery by threat.

As police department spokesman John Cannon said, the man who held the suspects until officers could arrive is a witness in the case, and therefore, his identity is not being released.

Cannon neither praised nor condemned the man for his actions in the parking lot, noting instead that “the citizen did what he thought was right at the time.”

Police examined the man’s gun and returned it to him. After the incident occurred, he bought some candy for his children, and drove away.
