Iqaluit woman finds metal shavings in Maple Leaf hotdogs

CBC – Mon, 14 Apr, 2014

An Iqaluit woman has a warning for area residents, after she got a surprise in her dinner.
Sylvia Thompson found metal shavings in a package of Maple Leaf Top Dogs Original Singles.
"I already ate one," she said, describing what she thought when she found the shavings. "And what's going to come out of the other end? Because what comes in here goes out somewhere else and I was just afraid that it could rip my throat. It could rip my intestines."
Thompson called Maple Leaf and sent the company pictures.
She said the company sent her a letter apologizing and asked Thompson to return the product.
They offered her a $40 coupon and wanted her to fill out a questionnaire so the company could do an investigation.
"And then I said no,” Thompson said. “I don't think this is right. I think you should be pulling them off the market. You should be advising the consumer."
Thompson talked to a lawyer and decided to keep the wieners as evidence.
In an email, Maple Leaf said it has metal detection in all facilities as a safety precaution, and is launching a full investigation.
It also said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is involved.
But Thompson isn't sure that's where it should end.
"It was a health risk for me. It was a health risk for everybody else in town if there was any other metal shavings in any other boxes. And I don't know. I just want to make sure that everybody's OK with this. I wasn't OK with it so this is where I'm at,” she said.

So where's the recall? Where's the consumer warning?

Makes me wonder how many other things may have been kept under wraps in the past if a not so bright consumer actually accepted the $40 coupon.
