NORTHAMPTON (external - login to view) - The parents of a former Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School (external - login to view) student are suing the school and its principal, claiming they violated their son's rights and caused him to suffer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for giving him in-house detention over a series of infractions he says he didn't commit.

Ellen Roy and Lyle Upright of Hadley (external - login to view) maintain that their son, who was a 9-year-old third grader at the school at the time of the March 2011 detention, cried inconsolably afterwards, clung to his mother and asked her to explain why the school would treat him in such a way.

First of all the paper desperately needs a competent editor, secondly it does not appear as though the parents are denying the charges against their kid, only saying he was traumatized by the punishment.

Buck up kid, this is just a small piece of what life will throw at you.

Parents better parent up and assist the kid to develop some coping skills.

Well duh. It's a Chinese immersion school. They're a lot tougher at detention. I heard they even harvest a kidney if a kid is caught chewing gum. Who wouldn't get PTSD?
