Egyptian court sentences 529 Muslim Brotherhood members to death

An Egyptian court sentenced 529 members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood to death on charges including murder on Monday, a defence lawyer said, in a sharp escalation of a crackdown on the movement.

The ruling was the biggest mass death sentence handed out in Egypt's modern history, lawyers said.

Meanwhile the Muslim Brotherhood continues to grow in Canada... Muslim school set to open in Kitchener

A new private elementary school will be opening in Kitchener this September.

The school, to be called the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) Maple Grove School, will be the first Muslim school in Kitchener.

The Muslim Association of Canada is the Muslim Brotherhood in Canada - from their "about" page

"MAC's roots are deeply enshrined in the message of Prophet Mohammad. It’s modern roots can be traced to the vigorous intellectual revivalist effort that took hold in Muslim societies starting in the early twentieth century. This revival aimed at reconciling faith with the challenges of modernity and providing a clear articulation of balance and moderation in understanding Islam. In the Arab world, this revival culminated in the writings of the late Imam Hassan al-Banna and the movement of the Society of Muslim Brothers (commonly known as the Muslim Brotherhood). Al-Banna’s core messages of constructive engagement in society, focus on personal and communal empowerment, and organizational development had a deep impact on much of the Muslim world."

WOW, I didn't know that building had been sold. That is my biggest surprise... $5000 tuition per child per year is quite hefty.

I wonder how the curriculum will be monitored.

It seems like you missed the next paragraph on that about page.

"MAC is a wholly Canadian organization that operates only in Canada. Although MAC cooperates with many associations for the benefit of its members, communities, and society at large, it has no organizational link or affiliation with other organizations. "

Expressing support for the same Imam does not imply that they are the same organization as the people being arrested in Egypt.

If you have not noticed yet, people can interpret the same words very differently.

Did you read up on the split in 06 - Tarek Fatah. Hardliners hate him.

More interesting, what do you guys think of the imminent mass execution of hundreds of people in Egypt? Do you think that is right?

Honestly I don't really care about the internal politics of Muslim groups in Canada. I am simply pointing out that the OP is factually incorrect.

It seems like the article in the OP is trying to use it as an example of why people should be afraid of the Muslim Brotherhood. It also seems to be worded in a way that would imply that these people were all individually convicted of many crimes, not that over 500 people were convicted of killing one man in a trail that took 2 days.

Not the point I was making. Anyone that thinks all Muslims are fine citizens that would cause no harm should reconsider their opinion.
And I am not singling out Muslims. The OP is about the school and their sponsors.

I don't know if "social injustice" quite captures the mass murder of 529 people properly.

But in some ways the structure of that article is really the most interesting part of this article. It would be interesting to have the OP clearly explain what role the imminent death of these 529 people plays in this article about a Muslim school opening up.

it plays into the "animal, barbarian part" at least that's what I thought...it was a subtle but excellent hook... well done for their agenda

also it plays into the anti Catholic (they sold them the building) they are complicit

it's nicely structured

Tarek Fatah reacts to Tariq Ramadan?s visit to Canada in the Toronto Sun

In his article, Tarek Fatah alludes to the fact that Islamic Relief Canada that sponsors Ramadan’s visit to Edmonton in 2012 also sponsored the visit of another Islamist (Zakir Naik) in Toronto in 2010. Naik was barred from entering Canada in 2010 for having expressed his support for Osama bin Laden and terrorism. In 2010, the Inter-Masajid Council, the second sponsor of Ramadan’s visit to Edmonton this year, had also sponsored a conference by Zakir Naik in Alberta’s capital.

Tarek Fatah (Toronto Sun – August 28, 2012): Muslim Brotherhood’s prima donna

Guess who’s coming to Canada? It’s none other than the prima donna of the world Islamist movement, the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Tariq Ramadan.

Ramadan, who was barred from entering the U.S. until Secretary of State Hillary Clinton launched her “appease the Islamists” diplomatic initiative, will be speaking in Edmonton this weekend as a guest of local mosques (and, believe it or not, CTV is a sponsor). Later, he flies to Montreal where the Muslim Brotherhood-inspired Muslim Association of Canada will host him.

Ramadan is a charming guy, but behind his smile lies a man committed to the goals of the worldwide Islamic jihad as laid out by his mentor, Sheik Qaradawi, and his father, the Trotsky of world Islamism, Said Ramadan.

While the rest of us will join the labour movement in parades or relish the last days of summer around family and friends, the Islamists will congregate in Edmonton and Montreal to receive guidance from Tariq Ramadan. Just last year, he told an American Muslim audience their job in the North America was to colonize the continent:

“We (Muslims) should all be careful not to be colonized by something which is coming from this consumerist society … It should be us, with our understanding of Islam, our principles, colonizing positively the United States of America.”

If that weren’t enough, Ramadan hinted that his presence in America and that of Muslims was not accidental, but the result of divine intervention. He said, “By the way, we are not here by accident.”

In Edmonton, the group hosting Ramadan is a freshly minted organization that goes by the name “Proud Muslims.” Their claim the event is “non-religious” is highly suspect as its main backers are “all the mosques of Edmonton and Islamic Relief Canada.” Islamic Relief is the same organization that sponsored the radical Indian preacher Zakir Naik to speak in Toronto in 2010. However, Naik was barred from entering Canada after news reports quoted him praising Osama bin Laden: “If (bin Laden) is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him … If he is terrorizing the terrorists, if he is terrorizing America the terrorist, the biggest terrorist, every Muslim should be a terrorist.”

His hosts (sic) in Montreal, the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC), is unashamedly pro-Muslim Brotherhood and vows to work towards a “Revolution in Islamic Work in Canada.” MAC makes no secret that it “adopts and strives to implement Islam, as embodied in the Qur’an, and the teachings of the Prophet … and as understood in its contemporary context by the late Imam, Hassan Albanna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Too many Muslims support violence | Columnists | Opinion | Ottawa Sun

In 2007, Environics conducted a survey about the attitudes of Canadian Muslims.

It showed an astonishing 12% of respondents said, if the men in the so-called “Toronto 18” terror plot had succeeded in carrying out their attacks on Canada, they would have been “at least somewhat justified.”

Most pundits simply shrugged off the shocking figure.

Now, six years later, we have a worldwide survey of Muslims conducted by the prestigious PEW Foundation. The results confirm the fear of many that the radical doctrine of jihad and Islamism is gaining ground.

The most talked about statistic was the fact 90% of Muslims (including women) in Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Malaysia expressed the view “a wife is always obliged to obey her husband.”

How do we explain away homegrown Islamic terrorists?
And you know full well I do not have an anti Muslim agenda as some on the forum do.

Sorry, but these folks knew what would happen to them, and broke the law anyway. It's not murder, it's 529 duly sanctioned executions.

My only query would be "what method are they going to use"

Do you really believe that you can hold a legitimate murder trail for 529 different people in the span of 2 days? Can you legitimately charge 529 people with the same murder? These people all may be guilty of something, but it is hard to see how anyone could believe that this is a legitimate justice system.

The trial was nothing more than a show trial, aka Stalin. It is murder, no fair trial.

Egyptian court sentences 529 Brotherhood members to death | Reuters

One court ruled on 545 people. Yep, justice served.

"A second year student in the faculty of law would never issue this verdict. There are a lot of flaws in this verdict. I think maybe an appeal could be successful but nothing is predictable," said Mohamed Zaree, program manager for the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies.

H.A. Hellyer, an Egypt expert and fellow at the Brookings Institution U.S. think tank, said he doubted the sentences would be carried out. "Nevertheless, the very issuing of the sentence itself is quite significant," he added.

On Tuesday, Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and 682 others will face trial on charges of incitement to kill.
